Reaching Santiago was not what I expected.

I thought I would feel only joy standing before the cathedral. Instead, I felt gratitude, relief, sadness, confusion, and a deep sense of reflection.

For days, my life had been simple: wake up, walk, trust the road, and keep moving forward. Then suddenly, I arrived.

The destination I had been walking toward was now behind me.

Sitting before the cathedral, I realized the Camino had never been about reaching Santiago. The lessons, friendships, challenges, and moments of quiet insight had been unfolding with every step along the way.

I had reached my destination, yet part of the journey still lay ahead..

For centuries, pilgrims approaching Santiago de Compostela passed through Lavacolla, one of the final stops on the Camino de Santiago. 🇪🇸

Behind these ancient stone walls stands the Church of Santa Lucía, a quiet witness to countless journeys, hopes, prayers, and footsteps. Long before modern roads and guidebooks, weary pilgrims would arrive in Lavacolla to wash and prepare themselves before entering Santiago and completing their pilgrimage to the tomb of Santiago.

Standing here beneath dark Galician skies, it was humbling to think of the generations who had walked this same path before me, each carrying their own story, their own burdens, and their own reasons for making the journey.

Just a few kilometers remained.

Santiago was finally within reach.

Buen Camino. 🙏✨
