I seriously can’t get enough of the little details.

Newborns are so precious, delicate and these tiny little beings that come to rock our worlds completely 😭

These sessions are best the first few weeks of life, BUT I always tell mama that we do the session when she is recovered and feels up for the show. Because I ask the mama to sit, lay down, move here and there so we want a comfortable and mobile woman, a new and completely different one? Yes, but a comfortable one at the end!

People ask why I don’t just pose everyone and get it over with.

Because posed photos capture what your family looked like. Unposed ones capture what it felt like.

I do give direction. Lots of it. But it sounds more like “go tickle her” or “smell your baby” and less like “chin down, hand on hip.” Then I step back and let your kids be exactly as chaotic as they are at home, and I catch the in between moments where you’re actually looking at each other.

Those are the ones you’ll cry over in ten years. Not the one where everyone’s smiling straight ahead.

How I actually get your kids to cooperate: I don’t 🙈

I play, I ask ridiculous questions, I encourage running, and I photograph whatever happens next. The moment I try to control a 4 year old is the moment we both lose. I’m a mom and I know all about their big personalities!

Mom, your only job during a session is to be with your kid(s) instead of managing them. Don’t ask them to look at the camera or say cheese. Look at them, kiss them, smell them. That’s the photo. The love you feel for them and connection you have with them♥️

That’s the photo you’ll want to come back to years from now, not the fake smile.

If you’re wondering when the best time is to do a newborn session, I always recommend “when mama is healed.”

To me, even though we’re doing a newborn photoshoot, mama is the most important person! She needs to be comfortable and healed enough to move and feel relaxed. Because a mama who’s stressed or in pain means photos that will look exactly like that!

Anytime in the first 5 weeks is ideal, but newborns are newborns until month 3, so you have time!!!

And you can book your session while you’re still pregnant, just leave your due date on your booking form. So once baby comes, there’s already a spot for you in my calendar ✨
