2023 has been a rollercoaster…

I’ve taken stands on things that were important to me and I’ve also had to let go of some dreams.

I’ve received many accolades that have shown me how lucky I am to be supported by people who care about me.

I’ve also had to make hard decisions and reflect on what success really means to me.

Nothing is all good or all bad, and as the holidays roll in once again, I find myself feeling a range of emotions, from sadness to gratefulness.

Life isn’t a straight line and we all can use the occasional boost. This year, for Christmas, reach out to a friend you haven’t heard from in a while. Pick up the phone and call a relative that’s far away.

Small gestures of kindness can have a bigger impact than you know.

I wish you all a safe and joyful holiday season… until next time.

You know the old saying: You want what you can’t have?

Positioning her so that her back is to the camera created a barrier, a wall… But it also added mystery and made me wanting to know more.

It got me curious: Why is she guarded? What is she thinking about?

Every single day, we see thousands of images… and very few manage to grab our attention.

These made me think…

Connection is everything

It doesn’t matter who you are, what you wear or where you are. If you don’t connect with the camera, you’re just a pretty picture lost in a sea of pretty pictures.

But…

If you connect, you can reach people. You can make them stop and look. You can influence feelings and thoughts.

That’s power.

Do you believe in fairytales?

It’s always a treat for me to create images that transports me (and hopefully you too) to another world.

Although photography is in fact a very technical trade, I believe it’s also magic as it’s a tool that allows me to take an idea or concept that lives in my head (and my heart) and make it come to life.

I love my job. And most importantly, I love my clients for trusting me to deliver something they can’t see until it’s done.

You think you’re camera shy? Not photogenic? You’re convinced you can never love yourself in a picture?

I have this one friend (let’s call her Trixie), who I’ve been trying to get in front of my camera for years, yes, you read that right…. YEARS!

After what felt like a million attempts at getting her in the studio, she finally accepted to come in for some headshots and I was so excited. I figured that since I had her in front of me, we should also do some nice and simple portraits to gift her parents, and we did.

I’m sharing this story with you because the self image issues we have (we all have them to a degree) are very real and can translate to actual fear and anxiety in front of the camera.

And that’s where I come in. I do not have a magic wand that makes your fear go away. What I have is empathy and experience so I understand your anxiety and I can apply every trick in the book to make you look and feel your best in your images.

“Trixie” ended up loving herself in her photos and she made her parents very happy by gifting them some beautiful portraits of their daughter. How much do you think the experience was worth to her.

What I do is more than clicking a button on my camera. What I provide is more than just photos., it’s an experience.

She is beautiful and fierce, even her calm demeanour can’t contain the strength radiating from her.

This is part 2 of the “great flower challenge”. In my previous post, we went for bright, soft and romantic. Here, we were looking for something stronger and more intense.

She walked in and saw the wings on the wall… she looked at me, eyes lit up with excitement, her expression begging” “Please???”.

I chuckled and said: “sure!”

Now, looking at the images, it feels like those wings were made just for her.
