As a mother of two adolescent daughters it is eye opening to see things from the perspective as a parent. In the younger years both my daughters were involved in acting and modeling. It was meant to be a fun experience for them. As we went to auditions, they welcomed the chance to meet other kids their age and audition. What I did notice is that many parents had instructed their kids not to socialize with the other kids auditioning, as if in some way it would take away from their audition or chance at success. My kids always wished everyone luck on their audition every single time, but were sad to see that they weren’t often wished luck.
As the girls have gotten older, they began to ride. Again, they love to meet new people who share the same passions they do, who else will know what flying lead change is? They have become part of a great community and contribute to it by cheering each other on to get over a jump or supporting each other after a fall that shook them and just sharing a lot of laughs. But there will always be riders that don’t want to to be part of that and or simply see each other as competition, which I suppose is their right.
Collaborating, sharing ideas and experiences and helping each other as colleagues does not take away from your success. You can do both. You can strive to succeed and grow and hit every achievement and you can still do that while supporting your colleagues.
Lets other successes be your fuel to continue to push, not something that holds you back from supporting each other.
As the co-lead of a professional women’s network and a mother I will always encourage people to remember you do not shine brighter by dimming someone else’s light.
