Ringed bill gull

Some in flight practice for this up coming fall / winter birds of prey.

I’m really aiming for owls in flight as I have yet to capture that so I’ve been practicing my tracking and panning shots, trying my best to improve my keeper rate.

- Common sandpiper

As summer has come to a close, another year almost finished, I can’t help but get excited excited for autumn which brings out most of our favourite animals. Moody conditions to capture yet another story we photographer/ videographers get to tell.

What are you most excited for in the next few months ??

Pulling up to a spot I hoped for some activity ended up happening right out of the car.

I rushed to the truck to take my camera out of the bag and thanks to Jan Wegener and using his “ action recall button” my settings were failed in creating this frozen in motion shot of a red tailed hawk.

Filling the frame being so low to the ground after taking off from a tree.

It circled a few times and just before it flew over the tree across the railway, I snapped this frame. It’s hard to see in the Instagram quality but it was mid-blink “ nictitating membrane,” which I thought that’s the shot !

Thanks to Photospec. I’m able to show off my settings and it’s awesome pan feature.

Oh how I long for the day of a clean in flight close up shot of a king fisher…. Well this will do for now!

As the cooler air starts coming in these beautiful bird will make their second big trip of the year back south.

It’s always been a goal for me to learn and appreciate birds from a young age.
Learning from field guide books, my mom showing me all the different birds that would visit my grandmas yard, to just simple saying “ hey Joe what’s this bird” seeing if I could remember.

In school I found it hard to retain information not because I was dumb but simple not interested. With nature and birds I found myself being able to racal their names and colours more.

Now I’m by far not the greatest at identifying all birds but I make an effort to each time I see one.

With subjects being a little limited at the moment, I decided to have a personalized photo shoot with a chipmunk in my backyard. Am I going to win any awards with these probably not but it’s always great to have some practice so when those subjects do appear, I’m ready..

Moments with a fluffy chipmunk

These by all means won’t win any awards but I’m happy practicing in my backyard for when the really subjects arise

This cute little one allowed me to sit in different positions from close to far without a care in the world…. Minus the price of peanuts of course.

What started as a quick handful turned into my getting a bucket within moments to keep my client happy

It stuffed its cheeks and the ones it didn’t want to open right away it ran back to its home and stashed them away.

Normally I focus on doing Photography but I'm trying my hand at shooting video. Short little video from my backyard as well as some of the final photos.

I spent the morning with a chipmunk who was eating some crab apples...
