When my baby was born I remember saying to my mom that children’s birthdays should be, in part, to celebrate the mother too. Especially the first one. Being a mom and bringing life into this world isn’t easy.

That’s become part of the reason why first birthday photos have become such a favourite of mine. I get to connect with mommas that are in a place I was not too long ago is special. 💞

Things I brought along for a solo flight with a 2.5 year old, with ratings based on interest level and time used! 👇🏽♥️

1) sticker book 3/5
I was surprised that this didn’t last him more than 5 minutes because it’s our go to at restaurants! Still gets points for how easy it is to clean up.

2) Amazon switchboard 2/5
Thought this would be more of a hit. Caught his interest for maybe 2 minutes.

3) Travel sized magna-tiles 4/5
Lose a point for being a bit flimsy, but kept his attention for a good 10-15 minutes.

4) mess-free colouring book 1/5
Mom used it more than baby. Just wasn’t interested in it, but has been previously when out for supper.

5) Amazon window spinners 2/5
He LOVED these when he was between 6-18 months. This time they only kept him entertained long enough for us to settle into our seat. Points for being easy to set up and take down.

6) Toy tractor/trailer combo with playdough 4/5
Tractors and trailers are always a hit with my guy. The playdough kept him entertained and was mess free.

7) Magic colouring board from Amazon 3/5
Kept him entertained for 10 minutes. We did letters and pictures for fun learning.

8) sticker book 5/5
WINNER WINNER. Helps that this is our fave show. Kept him busy for a solid 15-20 minutes.

9) Sensory books 4/5
I brought a variety and the one that kept him most entertained was the one with a finger puppet built in.

10) Snack spinner 5/5
So amazing for bringing a variety of snacks and doubles as a toy.

Not videoed was also soothers from to prevent ear popping, and chocolate covered granola bars from to help convince him to keep his buckle on during takeoff and landing. Big thanks to who always makes flying with my kiddo a breeze. 🩵

Raising him up the only way we know how. 🌾🚜

We always laugh and say that by the time El is 18 he will have 18 years work experience- and isn’t that so true of all farm kids. Where we go, he goes.

From being in the tractor at seeding time, to checking calves through the late winter, to long nights in the combine- he’s been there done that, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. ♥️

I’m not in it to stage a perfect moment. That’s not me - never has been.

I’m here to capture authentic moments as they unfold.

That’s what I promise to do during your session. I don’t promise to stage you and pose you until ever last finger looks “right.”

But I do promise to seek out the perfect moments happening organically around you, and to preserve them in time.

That’s my job. That’s what I’m here for.
