Some families come into your life through photography, and somewhere along the way, you realize you’ve been lucky enough to become a tiny part of their story.
The Nixdorf family first came to me in 2022 for fall family photos, and somehow here we are four years later. Four years of getting to watch their family grow, change, and step in front of my camera again and again.
There is something so special about having families trust me with these little pieces of their lives. The kids get bigger, personalities change, seasons pass, but I get to freeze a little bit of it for them each time.
1 am so grateful to be a part of their journey and even more grateful that they continue to choose me to document it.

One of the coolest parts of this job is watching the kids grow, seeing their personalities shine a little more each time, and getting to document all those little changes in between. It’s something I never take for granted.
And with the Winters, I love that I don’t only get to see them once a year for family photos. I get to run into them in the school hallways at drop off and pick up too, which somehow makes getting to photograph their family each year feel even more special.
And for the first time ever, the weather actually cooperated for them! No freezing fingers, chattering teeth, or pretending to be somewhere hot! A true fall family photo miracle.

What stands out isn’t the dress, the horses, or even the location. It’s that every photograph feels like it belongs to her. Nothing looks borrowed or staged.

Some sessions are beautiful because of the light.
Some are beautiful because of the location.
And then there are sessions like this one, where the photographs become a reflection of the person standing in front of the camera.

This morning wasn’t just about celebrating graduation. It was about preserving a season of life she’ll never get back.

When I look at these images, I don’t see a girl posing with horses. I see someone completely at home. There’s a quiet confidence in the way she leans into them, the softness in her expression, and the kind of authenticity you simply can’t pose. She isn’t trying to be someone else. She’s simply herself.

That first portrait, where only her eye and her horse’s eye fill the frame, is one of my favourite images I’ve ever taken. It says everything without saying a word.

P is the kind of young woman who leaves an impression. She’s kind, genuine, funny, and unapologetically herself.

This morning wasn’t just about documenting what she looks like.
It was about capturing exactly who she is.

And I hope that years from now, when these photographs are pulled out of a box or opened on a screen, she’ll see not only the girl she was—but remember exactly how it felt to be her in this moment. 🤍🐴💙 Angie Lyn
