You don't have to know what your bo***ir images will mean to you ten years from now. You don't even have to know exactly what you want them to mean today.

Maybe you simply want the experience. Maybe you have thought about doing this for years and finally decided you are tired of talking yourself out of it. Maybe there is something about this particular chapter of your life you want to have in photographs, even if you cannot quite explain why.

We tend to think we need a significant reason before doing something like this. But photographs have an entire life ahead of them after they are created.

What matters about them today may not be what catches your attention years from now.

You don't have to decide their future significance before you allow yourself to have them.

Today, your attention may be occupied by all the reasons you should wait.

The things you would like to change first. The questions you still have. The quiet voice wondering whether this is really for someone like you.

I understand why those things feel important now. I also know they may not be the things you remember years from today.

Years from now, I wonder whether you will remember the thing that nearly made you wait. Or whether your attention will be somewhere else entirely.

On the woman in the photographs. On the chapter of your life they hold. On the decision to create them before that season became a memory.

I cannot tell you when the right time to have a bo***ir session is. But if the idea has remained with you longer than the reasons you have given yourself to wait, perhaps deserves a conversation.

October is still a little way off. But there has been something sitting quietly on my calendar for some time.

Our next Krystal Klear Bo***ir Marathon date!

I know from experience that some women will see the date when I announce it and know immediately that they want to be there. Others will carry the idea around for a while.

They will think about it occasionally. Return to the page. Look through the photographs again. Wonder whether this is finally the year they stop thinking about having a bo***ir session and actually have one.

I think there is room for both.

You do not need to make the decision today. For now, you only need to know that October is coming and more details will be announced soon.

Every woman reveals something about herself during a bo***ir session. Not because I ask her to. And not necessarily because she realizes she is doing it.

Some women bring an enormous amount of energy into the room. Others are quieter. Some laugh easily. Some become thoughtful. Some surprise themselves with how quickly they become curious about what we are creating.

These differences interest me. They give me information no questionnaire could.

And they are precisely why I have no interest in creating the same session repeatedly with a different woman standing in front of my camera.

I can plan the location. I can understand the light. I can prepare extensively for the experience we are creating.

But I still want to leave room for the woman herself to change what happens next.

Before a bo***ir session, women can give an extraordinary amount of attention to things that eventually become very small parts of the story.

What they will wear. Whether they should have waited another six months. What their body is doing that week. Whether they will know how to stand. Whether they will feel awkward.

These concerns are real when they are happening. I would never pretend otherwise.

But then the session takes place. The photographs are created. An album eventually arrives. And the things that occupied so much space beforehand begin to compete with something much larger: the fact that she actually did it.

Years later, I wonder how many women remember the concern that nearly made them wait.

And how many are simply glad they didn’t.

A woman can spend years paying attention to the same things about herself.

The same part of her body in every mirror. The same angle she prefers in photographs. The same familiar criticism repeated so many times that she no longer remembers when she first began believing it.

Familiarity can be remarkably convincing. But it is also limited.

We experience ourselves from inside our own history. Through years of opinions, comparisons, photographs we liked and photographs we did not.

I photograph a woman without any of that history. I am paying attention to what is happening now.

The way she moves. The way light meets her. The things that become interesting precisely because they belong to her.

A bo***ir portrait does not need to argue with everything a woman has ever thought about herself. It can simply create a record that was made by someone paying attention to something different.

There is a conversation happening throughout every bo***ir session that has very little to do with words.

I am paying attention to how a woman responds when I give direction.

Whether she becomes more animated when we talk or whether the quiet suits her better. Whether a movement feels natural to her or whether I am asking her to become someone she simply is not. Whether she needs more from me in that moment or less.

A woman tells me an enormous amount without ever having to explain herself.

My responsibility is to pay attention closely enough to hear it.

I think this is part of why I could never photograph every woman the same way.

I am not working from a conversation I decided we would have before she arrived. I am listening to the one already happening in the room.

She is thinking about her hand. Whether it looks awkward. Whether her fingers are in the right place. Whether she is doing what I asked her to do correctly.

I am watching the way the light moves across her as she adjusts. I am noticing the expression that appears while she is concentrating. I am thinking about the photograph that may exist two seconds from now if I wait instead of immediately correcting her.

This happens constantly during bo***ir sessions.

The woman in front of my camera is paying attention to one thing. I am paying attention to five others.

She does not need to know everything I am watching for. That is my responsibility. Hers is simply to arrive. Mine is to notice what happens once she does.

One of the most interesting things about photographing women is watching where their attention goes.

At first, some women are acutely aware of themselves. Their hands. Their expression. Their body. The camera.

But it is difficult to fully experience something while continually assessing yourself from the outside.

So I give her other things to think about. Movement. Conversation. A direction that requires just enough attention to interrupt the constant question of how she looks while doing it.

Eventually, something changes. Not because she has forgotten where she is. But because having her photograph taken is no longer the only thing occupying her mind.

She has something to respond to. Something to do. Somewhere for her attention to go. And I am paying attention to what happens when it gets there.

At the beginning of a bo***ir session, a woman’s attention can be everywhere at once.

She is listening to my direction while wondering whether she is following it correctly. She is aware of the camera. She is thinking about where to put her hands, what her expression is doing, whether I can see the things she spent the morning thinking about.

Meanwhile, I am simply beginning to learn her. How she responds to direction. Whether conversation brings more energy into the room or whether quiet allows her to settle. Which movements feel natural and which ones clearly do not belong to her.

There is no point when I need every woman to suddenly become the same kind of comfortable. I am interested in something else entirely.

Understanding the woman who arrived. And creating the session from there.
