Poetic Road Recipes

Poetic Road Recipes Swiss roots, Quebec kitchen. Yes, I love the cheesy, nutty, chocolatey classics - but Swiss food is also elegant, seasonal, and beautifully simple.

I cook both sides of it, with modern twists and plenty of coziness. 🇨🇭

🍂 These Pumpkin Spice Cookies are the kind of cookies that disappear faster than you can bake them.

Soft and chewy, rolled in cinnamon sugar, and filled with creamy white chocolate chips, they have all the cozy flavors of fall in every bite. They're somewhere between a pumpkin cookie and a snickerdoodle - and honestly, I can't stop reaching for another one.

If you're looking for an easy baking recipe, this one deserves a spot on your list.

Perfect with a cup of coffee, tea, or on a chilly afternoon.

When summer rolls around, I find myself making the same handful of side dishes again and again.

The ones that can be made ahead, packed up for a picnic, brought to a potluck, or served alongside something fresh off the grill.

So I decided to gather some of my favorites into one place.

From creamy potato salad and herby cucumber salad to corn ribs, Swiss carrot salad, soft pretzels, and my tomato tart with Gruyère, these are the recipes I turn to all season long.

Whether you're planning a backyard BBQ, a family picnic, or simply looking for something fresh to add to dinner this week, I hope you'll find a few new favorites.

As a kid, I used to watch my mom make spätzle by scraping the dough off a cutting board, noodle by noodle, into a pot of boiling water.

It seemed to take forever, and I remember being fascinated by how a bowl of flour, eggs, and milk could turn into those little tender dumplings.

These days I use a spätzle maker, which is considerably faster. 😊

For this version, I mixed basil pesto right into the batter itself, so every little noodle is infused with pesto flavor before it's even cooked. It's one of those simple recipes that feels a little special while still being easy enough for a weeknight dinner.

Candied Citrus Peel 🍊

For years, I tossed citrus peels straight into the compost without giving them a second thought.

Then I learned how easy it is to turn them into candied citrus peel, and now I actually find myself saving oranges just so I can make a batch. 🍊

They're sweet, chewy, and perfect for adding to cakes, biscotti, cookies, or dipped in dark chocolate for a simple treat. I also have a habit of sneaking a few pieces straight from the jar when nobody is looking.

If you've never made candied citrus peel before, it's much easier than you might think.

Have you ever tried making it at home? Let me know in the comments ⬇️

Did you know in Switzerland, Bircher Muesli is not just considered a breakfast food? 🇨🇭
As a child this was something we would eat for dinner in the summer when it was just too hot to cook and we needed something hearty and refreshing.

✨ Orange Poppy Seed Loaf 🍊

Made using a whole orange – peel and all – which gives the cake its signature balance of bright citrus, gentle sweetness, and a slightly bittersweet depth you simply don’t get from juice alone.
