Just a polar bear doing polar bear things outside Churchill, Manitoba, Canada where rocket bears are actually a thing!

Everything you see in this clip was captured in just under a 12 hour period. In fact, other than the fox & forest scenes, the rest was captured in just a 3 hour magical period here in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada - on tour with Discover Churchill in late September.

The Churchill Trifecta & more all in a single afternoon/evening captured with my iPhone & GoPro.

Everyday is different here, no two days are the same. Some days the stars simply align, other days the animals appear to be on hiatus. Today was a challenge day to find wildlife, making me appreciate all the more - incredible days like you see in this clip here. One things for sure - any day out here beats any day in the urban jungle, at least for me!

Simply soaking it up 🐻‍❄️

This was the first polar bear encounter for a number of our Discover Churchill guests yesterday & what a beautiful encounter it was. I witnessed trembling hands & numerous tears - not for fear of one's safety - but from the wave of uncontrollable overwhelming joy of seeing their very first polar bear in the wild. It brought me back to my first encounter, It is one of the most special feelings I've ever experienced. Witnessing some of our guests reactions brings all that emotion back to the surface for me. There isn't a bear encounter I take for granted. Each and every single one is uniquely special.

Here is my visual diary from the 2nd week of August on tour with Discover Churchill - what a week we had, it was filled with multiple encounters allowing the opportunity for our clients to witness a multitude of polar bear behaviours.

While we battled mostly cloudy skies at night, the clouds parted just enough for a couple nights of dancing Northern Lights.

Met a few hares, lots of beluga whales & too many things with wings to even mention.

The week unfortunately ended on a sad note with the loss of a mother bear, resulting in an orphaned cub who will now grow up in captivity. (The cub would be unable to survive on its own)
My wish is that perhaps there will be a young boy or girl who's first polar bear they see will be this orphaned cub and, maybe it will spark them to lead a life devoted to polar bears well being?

Maybe spark them to become a renowned wildlife photographer whose images inspire others?

Looking forward to see what gifts Mother Nature bestows on us this coming week.

Growing up I remember on so many Sunday nights sitting in the family room with my parents and sister watching Mutual of Omaha's - Wild Kingdom, Marty Stouffer's - Wild America & more nature shows. Now.. instead of watching at home on a box, I'm out in the wild watching a family of polar bears play on a Sunday night (footage from last night) and, this is my life. Sometimes it is important to remember where we came from and how far we have come.

I was just 9 years old when I wrote a letter to the Tundra Buggy Co. For a brochure, so that I could come photograph polar bears here in Churchill, Manitoba. That 9 year old kid would be pretty amazed if he knew his future self would be a professional wildlife photographer and certified polar bear guide, taking others out to observe wildlife from a front row seat.. far from the comforts of the childhood family room.

Of the 8 billion+ humans on this planet, how many have been fortunate enough to look a whale in the eye.. I'd have to think not many of us. I feel beyond blessed for the opportunities I've worked so hard for.
