This made my day! Gayle here. I had never seen a live River Mussel before! A first for me. The majority of the shells on this beach along the Old Man river were opened and empty. Raccoon footprints everywhere gave away how these mussels met their end! I searched and finally found one the Raccoon's missed. So interesting to examine. I put it back in the water for a Raccoon to find. An exciting and beautiful day in Alexander Wilderness Park, Lethbridge, Oct. 7.

Part of our walk in Alexander Wilderness Park October 7th. This may be the last time we see a Northern Leopard Frog until spring as they will soon hibernate in the mud for the winter. This was the only one out this day and we don't blame him as it was a beautiful day!

The bison stood tall and mighty,
a giant of the prairie,
until one tiny horsefly arrived.

Iā€™m very excited and honoured to share that one of my bald eagle photographs has been included in the newly released A Field Guide to the Birds of Alberta!

What makes this book particularly special is that the vast majority of the photographs were taken right here in Alberta, by photographers who have spent countless hours out in the field capturing the incredible birds that call our province home. In total, photographs from 140 contributors were included.

A very special thank you to David Scott and Gavin McKinnon for all the hard work, time, and dedication they put into bringing this wonderful field guide together. It is a tremendous accomplishment, and Iā€™m grateful to have one of my photographs be a small part of it.

If youā€™d like to get your own copy, books can be purchased through
Meadowlark Birding Tours or directly from Heritage House, the publisher, as well as through many local bookstores and other book retailers.

And thereā€™s an added bonus- royalties from the sale of the book are being donated to Birds Canada to support their important conservation work!
