S-Layton Photography

S-Layton Photography Photography Steven Layton was born and raised in a Raymond, Alberta, Canada. His love for photography extends from nature photography to portraits and weddings.

It was always apparent to others, even before Steven knew it, that he was highly into the arts. Throughout his school years Steven was involved in drawing, singing, acting, choreographing, dance, and music, but it wasn't until he bought his first pro camera that his true talents began to shine. Almost immediately after diving into the photography field, his photos were published commercially for a

project in 2010. Soon after in 2013 Steven took on being the Director of Help Portrait In Lethbridge Alberta. Organizing events, volunteers, and sponsors together to help give free portraits to those who are financially struggling and could otherwise not obtain a family portrait. Steven has prided himself in the ability to take photos of a small town that show off its natural beauty through his artistic view. With a little bit of edge, and his love for lighting, he creates photos that the public adores. It is his personal preference to not to pose his subjects, but rather to promote a fun and friendly atmosphere where he can capture natural, real happiness on print. Katt Panic and I go way back, so when she reached out to ask if I was available to photograph her little sister Mackenzie's graduation, I was beyond honored. Being trusted to capture such an important milestone is something I never take for granted.

We chose Indian Battle Park for the session, and it couldn't have been a more beautiful evening. The landscape was lush, the skies were calm, and there wasn't a breath of wind. The only downside? The mosquitoes were absolutely relentless. We all came prepared, practically bathing in mosquito spray. Fun fact: 30% DEET lasts about an hour with mosquitoes this bad, and we were reapplying closer to every 20 minutes just to keep them at bay.

Katt's grandpa also shared a tip from the farming community that I'd never heard before. Instead of using After Bite, they use men's deodorant on mosquito bites. I'll admit I was skeptical, but I gave it a try. For the larger, itchier bites, it actually seemed to work surprisingly well. Whether you try it or not, I thought it was worth sharing!

Now, back to the real reason we were there. Mackenzie absolutely looked stunning. She wore her graduation dress with so much confidence and grace, and it was easy to see how excited she was for this next chapter in her life. Graduation is such a meaningful milestone, and it was an honor to help preserve these memories for her and her family.

Congratulations again, Mackenzie! I hope your future is filled with amazing adventures and success.

If you're looking for a photographer to capture your graduation, family, couples, or milestone moments in and around Lethbridge, I'd love to help you tell your story.

Graduation is such a special milestone, and I was truly honored when Jayden and Alaya's mom reached out to ask me to capture this exciting chapter for her twin daughters.

After chatting about their vision, the girls decided they wanted a simple, relaxed graduation session at sunset with the beauty of the water as their backdrop. Nicolas Sheran Park was the perfect location to bring that vision to life.

The evening was absolutely beautiful, even if the wind tried to keep us on our toes. We started our session tucked among the trees for a little shelter before making our way to the water just in time for the peak of sunset. The golden light gave us the perfect ending to an amazing evening, and these two absolutely shined.

Congratulations, Jayden and Alaya! Thank you for trusting me to capture such an important milestone. I wish you both nothing but success as you begin this next chapter of your lives.

If you know these amazing graduates, leave them a congratulations in the comments and help celebrate all of their hard work.

When Paul reached out to ask if I was available to photograph their private wedding, I was honoured to be part of such a special day. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they celebrated an intimate wedding at Paradise Canyon Golf Resort, and they truly couldn't have asked for more perfect weather.

The day began with a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony, followed by family portraits, cocktail hour, dinner, speeches, and dancing. With the sunshine, calm weather, and the stunning backdrop of the golf course, every moment was picture-perfect.

From the very beginning, it was clear how deeply these two care for each other. Every chance they had, they were together—talking, laughing, dancing, and simply enjoying every moment side by side. Their connection was effortless, and it shines through in every photograph from their wedding day.

Congratulations to the happy couple, and thank you for trusting me to capture one of the biggest days of your lives. Wishing you both a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

If you're planning a wedding, engagement, or special event in Lethbridge or Southern Alberta and are looking for natural, timeless photography that tells your story, I'd love to help capture your day.

There are some families that feel like catching up with old friends, and Amber's family is definitely one of them.

When Amber reached out to book another family session, I didn't hesitate to say yes! I've had the privilege of photographing her family for several years, and one of my favorite parts of this job is watching families grow through the years. This session was extra special because I also got to meet her new husband and stepson, making this a wonderful new chapter to capture.

We spent the evening at Nicolas Sheran Park, and it couldn't have been a more beautiful day. There was just enough breeze to keep things comfortable—well, except for the mosquitoes! I think that's just part of summer in Southern Alberta.

What made this session so memorable was how much fun everyone had. Sometimes it takes a little convincing to get everyone involved, but not this crew! They jumped right into every idea, shared plenty of laughs, and made it easy to capture genuine smiles, real connections, and memories they'll treasure for years to come.

Thank you, Amber, for trusting me once again to document your family's story. It truly means so much to be invited back year after year and to watch your family grow.

Golden hour, an amazing couple, and one unforgettable evening at Indian Battle Park.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Alex and Auryn's engagement session in one of Lethbridge's most beautiful locations. They chose a golden hour session at Indian Battle Park and were determined to make the most of it, even with the mosquitoes trying to steal the spotlight.

Despite the constant swatting, their love and connection shone through every moment. It was easy to capture genuine laughter, quiet moments, and the excitement they share as they prepare for their wedding. These are the kinds of sessions that remind me why I love photographing couples.

As an added bonus, the goats were out grazing nearby, giving us the perfect opportunity to include a few unique photos with them in the background. Sometimes the best moments are the ones you don't plan for.

If you're recently engaged and looking for a Lethbridge engagement photographer, I'd love to help you capture your story in a way that feels natural, relaxed, and authentic. Golden hour sessions book quickly, so reach out to reserve your date.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to camera - Lethbridge for their generous sponsorship as they lent me the exceptional Canon rf 15-35mm F2.8 lens. This Wide angle lens enabled me to capture the entire event with clarity and precision. It is sharp, fast, and ideal for landscape photography while also being versatile to be able to deliver portraits with a low depth of field at 35mm. The team at McBain Camera is dedicated to supporting their community and have a vast knowledge on all things camera related. If you are in the market for a new camera or lens or you are looking to upgrade your equipment. I would encourage you all to visit their store and speak to there amazing staff.

These photos were taken at the 17th Annual Smith Family Fireworks and Pyro-Musical show. These fireworks happen every year in Raymond on June 30th. If you missed this years event, I recommend marking your calendar for next year. The show offers a lively experience with food truck, restroom facilities, and entertainment suitable for all ages. The fireworks are even choreographed to go off perfectly with music elevating your firework experience. Helping you to create amazing family memories.

A HUGE and special thank you to the smith family for all the hard work you all put into this event year after year. I know its not easy and you do it for the love of your community. Thank you to all their sponsors who come together and pitch in to help make it all happen.

I was invited out for an evening of photographing Great Horned Owls, and it turned into an unforgettable experience.

Throughout the evening, we observed at least four adult Great Horned Owls and three teenage owlets. The young owls were old enough to fly confidently around the area but hadn't yet developed their distinctive tall ear tufts, which typically become more pronounced around six months of age.

The activity was incredible from start to finish. Owls were calling, flying, hunting, and interacting all around us, providing countless opportunities to observe and photograph these amazing birds in their natural habitat.

It was truly one of those special wildlife photography evenings that reminds you why spending time outdoors is so rewarding.

I hope you enjoy some of my favorite images from this memorable encounter with these magnificent birds.

Wait... a corn maze in June?

Last week we took Hannah to the corn maze, and before you ask—no, there wasn't any corn yet!

The farm opened for a special day where families could come out and enjoy all the attractions. There were animals to pet, giant slides, playgrounds, tire climbs, a huge jumping pillow, a corn pit, and so much more.

To say Hannah loved it would be an understatement. It might just be one of her favorite places. Seeing her run around, explore, and laugh all day reminded us why these little family adventures mean so much.

The goats were especially entertaining. They were a little aggressive when it came to feeding time, but Hannah thought it was absolutely hilarious. She couldn't stop laughing!

As photographers, we're usually busy preserving everyone else's memories, but we always make it a priority to create and preserve our own family moments too. These are the memories we'll cherish forever.

We hope you enjoy this little sneak peek into our family fun and the moments that make all the hard work worthwhile.

This is my parents wedding photo taken 52 years ago. Hung with pride it slowly faded with sun damage over the years.

It took every bit of my knowledge and 4 of my photographer friends knowledge to band together and combine efforts and restore this image back to its original glory. It was no easy feet. I could not have done this with out them.

We gave this photo to my parents the other day. They absolutley loved it and hung it back up with pride. Even decided to keep it in its original frame. We hope everyone enjoys this and shows some love for a couple thats lasted 52 years! And still going strong.

When Abby reached out to ask if I would photograph her fiancé Carter's graduation photos, I was excited to be a part of such a special milestone.

From the moment I arrived, Carter had a clear vision for his graduation session. He knew exactly where he wanted to go and the type of photos he was hoping to capture. Together, we headed down into the coulees, stopping at some of his favorite locations along the way. The scenery, combined with Carter's enthusiasm and personality, made for an incredible session.

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is getting the opportunity to celebrate important life moments with amazing people. Carter and Abby were both incredibly kind, genuine, and a pleasure to work with. It was an honor to help document this achievement and create memories they'll be able to look back on for years to come.

Congratulations, Carter, on your graduation! Wishing you and Abby nothing but success, happiness, and exciting adventures as you begin this next chapter together.

Help me give this graduate the send-off he deserves—drop a congratulations for Carter in the comments below!
