What do you do to keep your toddlers engaged and motivated while on an adventure? Here are a few things we do ... it's an ongoing learning experience. Share yours!
πΏ Play 'I-Spy' - nature style
π² Play other games like 'Nature Bingo'
π€ Sing your favorite tunes
πTell stories from your past or make one up (kid friendly of course π€ͺ)
π¨οΈ Talk with your kiddo ... sounds so simple, but I find my preschooler is so much more engaged to talk when we're out in Momma Nay
βEngage the senses ... Ask them what they see, hear, smell, feel, and if safe ... taste π
π€ΈMove in different ways ... Climb over a rock, balance along a wood log, tip toe, stomp your feet
π¦Play 'Stoplight' ... Green means 'Go', Yellow means 'Slow' and Red means 'Stop' ... this is great for working on body control, listening and responding and staying within a safe distance while on the trail
πShow them where you are on Google maps, and the 'finish line' destination of where you're headed
π Count how many steps until ___ (fill in the blank)
πTalk about a reward or small treat they can look forward to after the hike
π Have something to look forward to at the end of the hike, like a beach to play at, a creek to splash in, a playground etc.
