A phone photo, photographed with a professional camera. It seemed appropriate.

Phone cameras are really good now. We use them ourselves and we’re not going to pretend they can’t take a great photograph.

But put a phone and professional camera in the same carefully prepared setting and they still won’t create the same result.

What Makes Not Normal Photography… Not Normal?

What actually happens behind the scenes at our studio?

Well…

We move half the furniture around for five minutes of photography.

Things hanging on the walls regularly become props.

Our 1970s television was pulled into a shoot just last week.

Martha the mannequin is covered in signatures from people who've visited us.

Important mother-daughter disagreements are settled by rock, paper, scissors.

And thanks to one adventurous client, we can now officially confirm that our giant dice do **not** bounce. 😂

There is a method to all of it.

Everything in our studio has a place—but almost everything also has a possibility.

📸 FREELANCE PHOTOSHOP RETOUCHER WANTED – LANGLEY, BC

Not Normal Photography is looking for a skilled freelance production retoucher to work with us on an ongoing contract basis.

This position will be primarily remote, with the ability to work in-studio in Langley occasionally when needed. For that reason, preference will be given to applicants located in Langley, the Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, or elsewhere in BC.
What we need help with:
Background and floor cleanup
Removing wrinkles, marks, distractions and unwanted objects
Clothing and hair cleanup
Natural skin retouching where required
Compositing and preparing images for final review
Other Photoshop-based production work as needed
All Lightroom work and colour correction is handled in-house. You will be working with RAW files for Photoshop production work.

What we're looking for:
Strong Adobe Photoshop skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to produce clean, natural-looking work
Ability to follow our existing editing style rather than imposing a different style
Reliable communication and turnaround times
Someone interested in developing an ongoing working relationship as our studio grows

NO AI EDITING. We require manual Photoshop retouching and do not permit generative AI or AI-generated alterations to our client images.

A paid test edit will be required before ongoing work is assigned, and the successful retoucher will be required to sign an NDA/confidentiality agreement.

We’re launching Talent Services at Not Normal Photography and are looking for 10 local actors and models to take part in our Talent Services Launch Collaboration.

Whether you’re building your first portfolio, updating your agency headshots or refreshing your current images, we’d love to hear from you.

Each selected participant will receive:

• Up to a 90-minute guided studio session
• Up to three outfit changes
• Up to three lighting setups, backgrounds or looks
• Five professionally retouched, portfolio-ready images, including a minimum of two industry-standard headshots suitable for casting and agency submissions
