📣 ✨Thrilled and honoured to share that ‘Strings, Sips, and Stories’ has been shortlisted in the World Food Photography Awards 2026, in The Claire Aho Award for Women Photographers.

Captured from the hip while walking past a small café‑bar in Guatapé, Colombia, this spontaneous moment celebrates the shared drinks, drifting music, and easy connection that define the heart of local food culture. While this isn’t your standard food photo, it sits squarely at the intersection of people, food, and culture.

I like how this looks like a posed composition when it most definitely is not — a quick glance to my left while navigating the colourful and busy streets of Guatapé and my eyes, brain and heart worked together to click the shutter and keep walking. It wasn’t until I returned home and started culling that this gem was revealed.

📷 Best of luck to all the other photographers who submitted or were shortlisted in this prestigious international food photography competition. And thank you to the judges for including me. I look forward to learning who captures the awards in London on June 2nd!

"All you need is love, peace and (say) cheese", and the cheesemonger at the Albert Cuyp street market In Amsterdam was happy to say cheese for me!

Dutch cheeses are world-renowned, with Gouda and Edam varieties being the most popular worldwide.

I used to say "goo-da" before traveling to Amsterdam, but I learned that the proper pronunciation of this delicious cheese is "how-da"! I love learning fun facts while travelling. 😉

It doesn't matter where in the world you go, cinnamon rolls are always a favourite treat! And a favourite photo opp for a food photographer. 📷

These rolls (or cinnamon buns as we would call them in Canada), were captured at the Albert Cuyp Market in Amsterdam, which is apparently Europe's biggest daily street market!

Does cinnamon top your list of favourite food smells? (Mine is vanilla, with cinnamon or coffee coming in a close second.)

How best to show the beauty of Plovdiv’s Old Town? Add in the stunning beauty of my friend who honoured me with her time yesterday to take some maternity photos with the incredible backdrop of this ancient Balkan city.

Plovdiv and its surrounding areas are so rich in history, and so colourful and welcoming, I have already captured hundreds of photos in just a few days. Time to start culling!

This was the very first architecture photo I captured while strolling along the side canals in central Amsterdam, and while many more came after it, I just love this image. I was taken by the date on the building, 1733, which for a Canadian is a very long time ago! And yet as I travel more throughout Europe I really start to understand how very young our own country is.

Amsterdam is just a delight. I walked many steps absorbing the beauty of the city, its canals, architecture, bike culture, and food of course!

To say I am proud of this award is such an understatement. Nothing could make me feel better than to be recognized for my work by a global panel of photography experts. Feeling blessed and grateful!

🍽️📷 I am thrilled to announce that I've been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Award!

It's an incredible honour to have my work recognized among such talented photographers in the global food industry. Thank you to the judges and organizers for this incredible opportunity. I wish every other shortlisted and finalist entrant best of luck. 🎉🍾

Competition rules say that I can’t display my finalist image until after the awards ceremony so you have to wait a bit. 🫣

Stay tuned for updates as the winners are announced live on June 4, 2024 from London, England. All of the finalist images will be included in a public exhibition after the awards ceremony. How cool is that? 🎉
