🌌 North America Nebula

Really proud of this one - captured right in our own backyard!

This nebula sits about 2,600 light years from Earth, and gets its name from its striking resemblance to the continent of North America - you can even make out shapes that look like the Gulf of Mexico and the East Coast.

Shot at 600mm using my Sony astromodified camera with a light pollution filter, which really helps pull out those deep reds and detail even with all the light pollution we deal with at home.

Astrophotography always amazes me the idea that light traveling for thousands of years is landing on a sensor in my backyard tonight never gets old
