A few weeks ago I spent a weekend at Camp Erin where I had the opportunity to take portraits and film campers and volunteers for a short documentary I am creating on grief and the value of grieving in community.

While editing this evening this portrait jumped out at me! I love how it turned out!

I’ll be posting more about this on my other page but I’ll try to remember to post here too for those who don’t follow that page! But go follow it any way!

I realized that it has been quite a while since I have posted anything here…I honestly haven’t been out shooting much since the summer. It has been a combination of other life priorities, exploring new things (I’ve taken up indoor rock climbing and love it!!), a lack of motivation to head out in the cold winter weather but also trying to figure out what I really want this space to mean/be. I’ve always struggled to find my ‘voice’ here.

I have slowly been working on a passion project but the cold weather has slowed progress on that. But I also feel like I am at this interesting crossroads with social media.

Social media is this interesting thing. I see it having so much value while also having such negative impacts on us. I see it as a way for anyone and everyone to connect and to potentially reach a really wide audience that can turn passions into opportunities. But, I also see how some people get lost and lose the love and joy they had when they started creating. The pursuit for that one ‘big break’ or viral moment becomes all consuming.

I feel like I exist somewhere in the middle these days, fluctuating between this self-imposed pressure to ‘make something happen’ while also looking to for ways to create simply because I want and love doing it! Creating things has always makes me happy and in my opinion is what ultimately matters; creating and making meaning for ourselves matters. A lot!

I am not sure who will actually read all of this but if you have, thanks for sticking around for my personal reflections! I do have some work I have not yet shared so I do plan on getting that posted here at some point,

In the meantime, I have been giving more time and energy into my other account a place where I am finding ways to blend my worlds of photography, video and social work/grief practices and where I feel I know my voice. Creating legacy films (often towards the end of a persons life) has been such an honour and work I hope I get to continue doing.

Anyway, I hope you’re all doing well and here’s a photo! 🙃
