I’ve been a little obsessed this past week with listening to Eckart Tolle, a spiritual teacher who wrote the Power of Now. I listen to at least one video a day on youtube and I highly recommend giving it a try! If you have way too many Netflix series to catch up on and don’t have time, I will gladly just recap some of the things I’ve learned this week.
- We are constantly stressing about the past and worrying about the future. We must focus on the present moment as that’s the only thing we can control.
- Accept your feelings and thoughts as they come, but do not attach your identity to them. You can feel the way you feel but try and not react to your emotions. The point is not to eliminate all thoughts, but to not let them carry you to 3 in the morning.
- It is important to find balance in just being and doing.
- It would be impossible for someone to give you enough love, attention, affection and compliments if you do not value and love yourself. (a fault that I now realize in my past relationship)
- You are able to find happiness right now. You do not have to wait to earn extra income, buy a house, get a partner. You can choose to end your suffering and pain right now.
Being more aware of my thoughts patterns and reactions to these patterns is going to help me be a happier person with more resilience and acceptance toward life. I am looking forward to getting to know myself. The self under all the patterns and facade.
