I lost my son in November. He was 20. It’s been a complete devastation. I found an old journal entry - it was because of my overwhelming love for Koën that I started into photography when he was about 1. He was so beautiful and I just wanted to take beautiful photographs of him so I could remember everything. Every detail.

I took a ton of photos.
But I rarely booked family sessions.
As a result I’m in very very few photos with him that aren’t taken on an iPhone.

As photography became a job and less a hobby, I took less photos.

A couple months before we lost him, we had a family photo session booked. It got rained out. Organizing 6 kids, 5 of them teenagers and young adults, it seemed impossible, so the session didn’t get rescheduled. It’s one of my biggest regrets.

So what I’m saying is… Mama’s, please get in the photos. Your hair doesn’t need to be perfect, you don’t need to have the perfect outfit and you really don’t need to lose weight.
