As captivating (a bit wild) as this first big snowfall of the season has been, I still tend to find beauty in the smaller, more subtle things. The crisp contrast to these mountain ash berries beautifully scattered across our property brought me mellow joy. ❄️

One more of that evening glow from this past weekend. We savoured the moment and got lost in the depth of this scene from our boat while we wrapped up day one of two on Duncan Lake.

Started December off with a short weekend camping trip to Duncan Lake, BC just north of home.

I could swear we were the only ones out there for any length of time. Nature treated us to a mixture of rain, snow, and a sliver of sky just in time for a dazzling sunset looking towards Howser.

Happy Thanksgiving from Alberta! 🦃

I’ve spent nearly a decade off and on working in Alberta. Though when I moved to BC about a year ago I never would have thought I’d be back, other than for the odd time-sensitive reason as I make the transition to BC. After meeting my better half, who’s from Alberta, I’ve been treated with seeing more of Alberta’s vibrant skies from time to time.

What a beautiful sunrise it was this morning to top off a family-filled weekend as we pulled out of the driveway to make our way back to BC.

There’s this idea
that waterfalls wink at those who feel them
seize them
become addicted by their essence

The radiating roars of nature
and hidden messages
pre-dating us
but also living through us

The fiercest autumn leaves I’ve ever seen. I’ve been mesmerized by this tree since my first time in Kaslo (2018). You can’t miss it.

I grew up in Southern Ontario, so naturally I’m drawn to the vibrancy that this time of year can bring. While out west in the mountains we get excited for the golden calm of larches (I certainly do), a piece of me will always hold a spot for the crunchy sequence of fall colours we don’t always see an abundance of. 🍁

A compilation of the past few weekends saying goodbye to summer in the West Kootenays.

You’ll notice that there is still some smoke from forest fires lingering near New Denver, BC along Slocan Lake.

Fall is beginning to show around the Kootenays, specifically in Kaslo where locals are harvesting and the smooth smell of firewood fills the air.
