Deep within the rare, old-growth transition zones of Nova Scotia, a quiet defiance is taking place. For seven years, Nina has stood as a guardian in the path of the machines, documenting and defending the ancient Acadian and Boreal forests that hold the province’s remaining biological spirit.
But the landscape of resistance has changed. Under the shadow of Bill 127, the provincial government has introduced a severe $50,000 fine for citizens standing their ground on Crown land.
Wabanaki - The Last Stand is an intimate, high-contrast visual portrait of an ancient ecosystem and the heavy price of being its witness. It explores a critical modern conflict: When the law is a machine that only sees board feet, who protects the biological soul of the ancients?
