Boats make for great subjects when the water's calm enough to hold a reflection and the light's coming from a good angle. Sometimes you don't need a dramatic scene, just clean light and a strong subject. A quick shot from a whale-watching trip.

Ravin Photography — This one came from a whale-watching trip out of Brier Island. Bird sightings aren't guaranteed on every tour, but we got lucky that day and spotted a few, including this bald eagle. Getting the shot wasn't easy, though—600mm focal length, handheld, on a moving vessel, trying to hold steady long enough for a clean frame; I'm happy with it.

You don’t need a studio for maternity photos. This whole Halifax session happened at home, against a plain wall, in natural light. 🤍

Save this for when it’s your turn:

→ Outfit: both of you in white on top, blue jeans on the bottom. Matching tones read as “together” instantly, and white keeps the eye on the bump. Simple beats styled every time.

→ Location: a bright wall and a window is the entire set. No backdrop, no gear — just a corner of your home with good light. That’s why “flexible location” works: we use the space you already have.

→ Posing: lean back against the wall with a hand under the bump. Partner cradles from the front. Foreheads together, eyes down. The tender in-between moments are the keepers — not the stiff smile-at-camera shots.

Comfortable, private, and completely you. That’s the quiet magic of shooting at home. 🏡

Vegas Days, museum edition. This one's from Discovering King Tut's Tomb at the Luxor in Las Vegas—replica artifacts made by Egyptian artisans using the same techniques as those used on the pieces originally recovered from Tutankhamun's tomb. I wasn't planning to shoot through glass, but the gold against all that blue lighting was too good to pass by.

Window seat on a flight out of Vegas, and this grid of desert suburbs against the mountains was too good to pass up. Sometimes the best travel photos happen when you're not even trying to take one.

Vegas Days, abstract edition. Sometimes the best shot isn't a landmark at all —just colour and geometry. This is a canopy ceiling, framed so tightly it stops being architecture and starts being pattern.

Still can't believe this is just off the highway.

Port Hawkesbury sunrises hit different when the harbour freezes over.

Shot on a random stop driving through Cape Breton. Sometimes the best photos are the ones you almost drove past.
