Residency, Day 1:
I have started my first (self-directed) residency. The Elizabeth Bishop House in Great Village, NS, is the childhood home of poet Elizabeth Bishop who I knew nothing about and am quickly becoming very obsessed with. Like me, she’s got deep yet complex relationships with place and travel, and I can’t wait to explore these themes in my work and hers as I wander through this time capsule of a space, watching the sunlight dance on the lace curtains, antique furniture, cracked farmhouse sinks, and countless books written either by or about her. She was also a 1930s q***r feminist badass - more on that tomorrow.
Uninterrupted time in a beautiful, soulful place is such a gift. My goals here are experimentation with process:
✨printing cyanotype on glass
✨making cyanotypes using a variety of purchased and handmade papers
✨making cyanotypes on fabric
✨collaboration with my housemate and beautiful friend, on some words + images collage
Ok, off I go to find the ocean 🌊
