Now that Christmas is over and cards and photos have been delivered, I can post this birthday session with a personal favorite of mine. I only have my son and one nephew and let’s be honest, very few boys want to pose in front of a camera. I am certain I was meant to be surrounded by kids, and since that isn't the case in our family, I have adopted my friends children as my bonus nieces and nephews. Last year I attempted to start a new birthday tradition where they grow older and I get to spend a little time documenting them at this age. Little Lorraine was happy to hang out with me and my camera and surprised us all with the inner model that was just waiting to be photographed. She is the thinker of the group of kids and the one who always checks in to make sure someone is alright. I can't wait to see what her world will look like as she grows up and I am thankful these two kids landed in our lives

I love Mama + Me sessions. I also love when a client orders a large scale, professional print from their session. This evening I opened a print order to see this beauty and it made me so happy! I can’t wait to see it on their wall!

The main thing I love about photography is being able to look back on a time and a place and thinking about something that I would never have thought about again, if it weren't for the picture. I took this set in 2018. We had just relocated to this property that year. We were living in the garage/motorhome (I swear it wasn't as dramatic as I make it sound) and trying to have as normal a Christmas as possible while our house was being built. I can still hear the giggles from this guy, while we played around in the cold taking these. Our dog, who was our first baby, is no longer with us and that makes having these memories even more special. Looking back on these makes smile. Someday, when I am old and grey I hope someone asks me for my piece of advice. That little golden nugget I can pass down to someone just starting out with a family. I’m sure I will have many but It is now and will always be; Take the picture and freeze the memory.

I took my camera with me one day when we visited my in-laws. My father in law loved our son. He was just four years old when his grandfather passed away. They had a pretty special bond and he still talks about him at least once a week. I know eventually the memory of “Grampy Bus” might get a little fuzzy. I am so grateful for this impromptu session one day in their back yard. It doesn’t matter if it is a professional session or a snap shot with your phone. Take the picture. We are the writers of our story and stories are always better with pictures. ❤️

My heart belongs to Spider-Man. Every year, I try and to get a set of photos for this guys birthday. When he turned five, he informed me that he no longer wanted to do our photo sessions. I’ll be honest, It hurt this mamas heart. We had a discussion about growing up and looking back on ourselves someday and remembering who you were at five years old. He agreed to let me continue my yearly tradition but only if he could decide what to wear. This is what compromise looks like with a five year old!
