A month ago, I did a giveaway for a petite family session, with one stipulation: participants had to be single moms.
If you saw it, you may have wondered why.
Well, let me tell you why.
I am a single mom.
After more than a decade in a traditional family setting, I have spent 2026 learning how to navigate parenting on my own and adjusting to having half as much time with my children. Something I don't think any parent or child should ever have to experience.
But life changes. And it isn't always easy.
In the past few years, I've experienced several huge life transitions. I started school. I began a second career working in education. And I started building a life on my own.
All of these changes have required me to adjust how my business operates and to shift where my focus goes.
Recently, someone questioned my priorities, and I was honest. I said that my children are my first priority, and they always will be. Not my business.
What I didn't say at the time is that this has always been true. Whether photography was my full-time job, whether I had a partner, whether I was a student or not... my children would still come first. Supporting them, being available for them, and spending time with them is my number one priority.
Yes, after 10 years I now do photography part-time. But that does not mean I care any less about my clients, the work I do, or the quality of the work that I deliver. It simply means that my time is more divided. I may not always be immediately available to answer an email or message, and I maintain limited office hours so that I can be present and successful in the other areas of my life, too.
I prioritize family time. I honour my commitments. I continue to put my heart into every session and every gallery I deliver.
But I will not be chained to my desk or my phone. I can't be.
This is a transitional period of growth for me, and honestly, one that I am incredibly excited for.
Thank you to every client who has been patient with me and has continued to support me through these major life changes. I will continue to make space for the work I love and to be there to capture your memories, even as my own life continues to evolve.
One thing has remained unchanged through all of it:
My love for capturing your memories and watching your families grow. That is, and always has been, the reason I do what I do.
