Finally, this summer, after a failed attempt last November, I got the opportunity to photograph the Great Blue Heron. I had been chasing this shot for almost a year since the last time I saw it. Posed for me for a good hour, while I sat a respectful distance away and admired it through my lens.
What struck me the most during this interaction was its playful nature. You’ll notice in one of my shots the Heron picks up a stick from the water. It poked around at the lake bed and moved it around the water for quite a while. Seeing it handle the stick was a mesmerizing sight, I could have watched it play with the stick all day.
I hope in the future my path will cross again with this bird. What a stunning sight.
Please feel free to share my work, but I ask no reproductions be made without my permission. Thank you.
