There’s something a little bit magical about a litter like this…

A whole wagon full of Belgian Shepherd puppies... equal parts intelligence, curiosity, and just a touch of chaos 🖤

This is a breed known for their loyalty, their work ethic, and their incredible connection to their people… but at this stage?
They’re mostly known for all deciding to run in different directions at the exact same time 😄

Sharp little minds, busy little bodies, and personalities already starting to shine through.

With mom and dad keeping a close eye on things, and a whole lot of future adventure packed into one frame… this is the kind of moment that won’t stay little for long 💛

I found out recently that I’ve been named a finalist in three categories at the Professional Photographers of Canada National Image Competition:

• Photographic Artist of the Year
• The Bruce Hendricks Award
• Best in Class – Animals

I’m incredibly honoured… not just for the recognition, but to be listed alongside so many truly talented photographers whose work I admire.

These images each carry their own story.

One of them lived quietly in my mind for over three years before I was finally able to bring it to life.
Two are wildlife moments that I will never forget,
And one is a litter of puppies, full of life and personality, exactly the kind of joy that reminds me why I love what I do.

To have these moments recognized at this level means more than I can easily put into words.

The awards will be announced near the end of April… but for now, I’m just sitting in a whole lot of gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me to tell their stories, and to those of you who helped me create the visions in my head 🖤

This session almost didn’t happen… but I’m so glad it did.

I had a litter session scheduled about an hour away, but I was also waiting for one of my goats to give birth. With the weather turning wild; crazy wind, snow, and sideways hail, the client made the call to drive all the way here instead.

Between gusts of wind that tried to take my equipment away, and bursts of snow, the storm gave us a tiny break… just enough time to photograph these seven beautiful German Shepherd puppies.

All in all, a perfect session. Sometimes the best photos happen right in the middle of chaos.

A huge thank you to my client for being so flexible during such a crazy time here on the farm. I truly appreciate it!

Litter sessions are always an adventure, but moments like this make them completely worth it. 🐾

Which puppy would you choose? 😄

There’s something almost mythical about Irish Wolfhounds.

For centuries they were bred to hunt wolves across the wild landscapes of Ireland. Massive in size, fearless in courage, yet known for their calm and gentle hearts. Even today, standing beside one feels a little like standing beside a living legend.

And then you see them as puppies…
tiny versions of the giants they will one day become.

It was such a joy to photograph this beautiful litter with their proud parents, Finn and Honey, watching over them in the forest.

Their breeder shared these words about life with this remarkable breed:

“Having Irish Wolfhounds has been an absolute pleasure and has taught me a lot about the breed and about myself. Loyalty runs deeper than blood when you have this breed by your side. They are majestic powerful giants and yet have a gentleness to them that is so delicate. The line between domesticated and wild is very fine.

Having to learn to bond through eye contact below those bushy brows has taught me how to be personal with my wolfies. They demand it, and with that comes a mutual respect and love for each other. They’re not just a dog, they are your knights in shining armor. Grounded and ready with the energy around them. They read a situation carefully and collectively. I’ve never had a better protector by my side.

Their quirky personalities give them a uniqueness you won’t forget. The hugs they give are the best. They will push their big head into you until you push back. It is true, they will steal your bed but they will also steal your heart and it’s so worth it. I would willingly give it to them over and over again. It is an absolute honor to have these beauties in my life.

I hope that Finn and Honey’s beautiful puppies will fill their owners’ hearts with the love and joy I’ve been so lucky to be filled with.”

Watching these little ones lined up beneath their watchful parents, it’s easy to imagine the incredible giants they will grow into.

Gentle hearts.
Ancient souls.
Future legends in the making. 🐺
If you have ever wanted an Irish Wolfhound, reach out and I can put you in touch. Hands down one of my favorite breeds!

Once upon a time in Ireland, these dogs were not pets…

Irish Wolfhounds were bred to hunt wolves.
Actual wolves.

They needed the speed to chase them down, the size to take them on, and the courage to face animals as big as elk and wild boar. In fact, they were so valued that ancient Irish law once restricted who could own them. They were gifts fit for kings.

Fast forward to today… and the descendants of those legendary hunters are far more likely to be found stealing couch space and leaning lovingly against their people.

But if you look closely, you can still see that ancient history in them.
The long legs built for running across wild landscapes.
The noble head and wise expression.

These sweet pups may grow up to be gentle giants, but they come from a long line of legends.

And their parents?
Still every bit as magnificent as their ancestors… just a little more interested in cuddles than wolf hunting these days. 🐾

If I could sum up today in one photo… it would be this. 🐾

The sweetest Irish Wolfhound puppies, tiny whiskered kisses, big paws, puppy breath, and a breeder who clearly adores every single one of them. I’m already obsessed with this litter. Seriously though, I realllly wanted to bring one home! More soon

They say that if the ravens ever leave the Tower of London, the kingdom will fall…

The ancient White Tower, built in 1078 by William the Conqueror, stands with its stones soaked in the stories of kings, traitors, prisoners, and whispered executions.

For centuries, these black-feathered guardians have lived within those walls, watching over crowns, conspiracies, and secrets too heavy for history books. Legend claims that King Charles II was warned the Crown itself would crumble if the ravens were ever allowed to disappear. Since then, at least six must always remain at the Tower.

Just in case.

And so they stay.

When we stopped in London on our way home from Africa, I found myself beneath those ancient stones, camera in hand, staring into the gaze of one of these legendary birds, Tower Bridge rising behind him through the grey sky. He tilted his head as if weighing my worth. As if he knew stories I would never be allowed to hear.

Ravens have long been symbols of prophecy, protection, and transformation. In Celtic lore, they were tied to battle and fate. In Norse mythology, Odin’s ravens carried knowledge across the world. And here, at the Tower, they carry a kingdom.

On this beautiful Christmas Eve, I would like to introduce you to Ruby! Ruby is looking for her forever family!
Ruby is a 19-month-old Dogo Argentino mix with Spanish Mastiff whose owner, our dear neighbor, unfortunately passed away. She is very affectionate and easily attaches to people. She will be an amazing addition to a couple or an individual who appreciates a loyal and loving friend. Ruby would thrive in a home where she is the only pet, though she does love playing with her current foster brother, I think she would be good in a home with a larger more mellow dog to play with. She can be reactive when it comes to other dogs or small animals being picked up and carried in people’s arms, but with the right training and approach, we are pretty sure it wouldn’t be an issue in the future. So far she is good with cats, but not tested with other farm animals. She is a fast learner, great on leash and has a solid recall on a walk off leash. She does not wander far and likes to stay close. Might be better in a home without very small children. She is available through PALS in Nakusp!

Our 2025 Full Farmily Portrait ✨❤️
What a year it has been here at BC Farm & Family Photography, River’s Edge and Galaxy Goats. From early morning chores to late-night barn conversations, from muddy adventures to quiet moments with the animals we adore; our little world has been overflowing with joy, growth, and unforgettable memories.

We truly couldn’t have done it without our incredible helpers-turned-family. To Lesley and Jon, and then Jazz and Zach, our wonderful friends from the UK, thank you for sharing your hearts, your humour, and your hard work. You helped carry us through one of our busiest, wildest, and most beautiful years yet.

My incredible clients, the farms, the dogs, the puppies. I had an absolute blast meeting all of you. I can’t wait to see what next year brings. Thank you so much for being such a big part of our year. I seriously have the best job in the world!

And to the amazing guests who stayed at River’s Edge Cottage… thank you for bringing your kindness, your curiosity, and your stories to our farm. We met so many incredible people this year, folks who wandered up to meet the goats, cuddle the puppies, or chat with us at the barn, and we feel so lucky for every shared moment. You’ve become part of our story too.

And of course, to our beloved animals; every goat, horse, pig, chicken, duck, dog, and soft, mischievous spirit who lives here, thank you for filling our days with magic. You are the heartbeat of this farm!

From our entire Farmily to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and the happiest New Year. Here’s to more stories, more laughter, more connection, and countless new adventures in the year ahead. 🌟🐐🎄
