I’m joking. (Dive in below)

Kind of.

I don’t ACTUALLY think family photos should disappear from weddings. Some of the most meaningful photos I’ve ever delivered are of a bride hugging her grandma, a groom with his siblings, or three generations standing together. Etc etc. Your family (or the people you call family) are a HUGE part of your wedding day.

What I DO think should disappear is the expectation that every wedding needs 75 different family photo combinations because your mom told you you had to.

I’ve watched couples spend cocktail hour tracking down relatives they barely know or have spoke to all year. I’ve watched stress replace excitement over a photo list that wasn’t even from the heart to begin with.

So here’s what I tell every one of my couples:

I’m never going to tell you who should or shouldn’t be on your family photo list. That’s not my place. But I am going to ask you one question…

If you got your wedding gallery back and there wasn’t a photo of you with this person, would you be genuinely sad?

If the answer is yes, they belong on that list.

If the answer is no, maybe they’re there because you feel like they should be.
