Chasing the Wake in Pugwash

Sometimes you head out with the camera not knowing exactly what you’re going to find—and then a moment like this comes along.

While spending some time in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, yesterday, I caught the Salt Addict making its way across the water. The first two frames really capture the power of the boat as it cuts through the waves, throwing spray in every direction, while the third gives a closer look at the boat itself and the quiet coastal setting behind it.

There’s something I really enjoy about photographing working boats. They’re not just part of the scenery—they’re part of the story of the Maritimes.

Sometimes it's the little things that bring the biggest smile.

As the evening sun filtered through the oak leaves, this little garden gnome seemed to be enjoying a peaceful swing, soaking in the last golden rays of the day. The warm light, quiet surroundings, and whimsical scene made for a simple reminder to slow down and appreciate the small moments that often go unnoticed.

Photography isn't always about grand landscapes or rare wildlife. Sometimes, it's about finding beauty in the everyday.

Some days, everything just comes together.

After plenty of patience and countless attempts, I finally got some decent shots of these little wonders of nature. Watching Ruby-throated Hummingbirds hover effortlessly around the feeder never gets old, and freezing that split-second in flight is always a rewarding challenge.

These tiny birds may only weigh a few grams, but they're full of energy, speed, and beauty. I'm happy to have captured both the female and the male as they paused just long enough for the camera.

A Moment Between Flights

Patience is one of the greatest rewards in wildlife photography. Hummingbirds are constantly in motion, making every quiet pause feel like a gift. Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to capture this tiny visitor taking a brief rest at the feeder, with just enough sunlight to reveal the incredible emerald iridescence that makes these birds so remarkable.

It's amazing to think that such a small bird can travel thousands of kilometres during migration, yet still pause long enough for a photograph that captures both its beauty and delicate nature. Moments like these remind me why I enjoy photographing the wildlife that visits my own backyard.

Floating Serenity

Sometimes the simplest scenes are the most captivating. This water lily, resting quietly among the lily pads, caught my eye with its soft pastel petals and vibrant yellow center. The calm water and natural surroundings made for a peaceful moment that was well worth capturing.

I haven't been posting a lot of pictures lately. It's because I fell and broke my heal bone. April 18th, 2025 to be exact. Finally getting surgery after the chip piece of bone didn't fuse back. So at the Halifax Infirmary today to get some long waited surgery. Going to be a slow recovery. But hopefully I'll be back to getting more waterfall pics.

Ps.

The heal bone is supposed to be one peice. You can see the peice that was chipped off.
