My girls and I hiked up a mountain over the long weekend. We 4x4ed up to the trailhead because of all of the very large washouts.

Usually, there’s about 4 feet of snow through these trails at this time of the year, but we just ran into about half a foot of slushy snow at the top. There really isn’t much snow on the mountains this year.

After reaching this Lake, it started to hail/snow/rain on us. We had to get down the mountain top, the very top being a rocky cliff. It was a little treacherous. We did make it down after a few falls and slides and questioning our life choices. 😂

We won’t be forgetting this hike anytime soon. The views were definitely worth it.

Allotropa virgata, commonly known as sugarstick or candystick, is a unique flowering plant in the heath family Ericaceae that lacks chlorophyll and obtains nutrients through a symbiotic relationship with fungi, primarily the matsutake mushroom. It is found in the forests of the Pacific Northwest and is characterized by its distinct red and white striped stems.

Another cool plant/flower I spotted while out hiking with my macro lens in the forest. 🌲 🌺

Here we stand in the middle of this new world with our primitive brain, attuned to the simple cave life, with terrific forces at our disposal, which we are clever enough to release, but whose consequences we cannot comprehend.
Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

I know I have great inner strength; I always have. I can blank things out, cut people out, and I know that I can go and live in a cave on my own if necessary.

Had a really fun day caving the other day!! First time I’ve been to these particular caves! Found a couple of different kinds of flowers while there too.

“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it.” – Author Unknown

Calypso is a genus of orchidscontaining one species, Calypso bulbosa, known as the calypso orchid, fairy slipper or Venus's p slipper. It is a perennial member of the orchid family found in undisturbed northern and montane forests. It has a small pink, purple, pinkish-purple, or red floweraccented with a white lip, darker purple spottings, and yellow beard. The genus Calypso takes its name from the Greek signifying concealment, as they tend to favor sheltered areas on conifer forest floors. The specific epithet, bulbosa, refers to the bulb-like corms.

I was pretty excited when I came across this white Fairy Slipper. From all the research I’ve done, they are pretty rare. They’re usually a pretty bright pink. So, I biked my camera, macro lens, and SmallRig macro lights back out to the flower. I found this rare beauty in amongst a bunch of pink Fairy Slippers which I’ve also shared pictures of.
I love how the tops look like crowns and the middle actually kind of does look like a tiny little fancy fairy slipper. 🧚

“Paradise was always over there, a day’s sail away. But it’s a funny thing, escapism. You can go far and wide and you can keep moving on and on through places and years, but you never escape your own life. I, finally, knew where my life belonged. Home.”
J. Maarten Troost

“You deal with mythological stuff for a few years, you learn that paradises are usually places where you get killed.”
Rick Riordan 😂

And indeed I could have been killed here. I have fallen twice within a week just below where I’m standing against that jagged rock down there and it’s the reason I’m off of work today. 😂 Those rocks are incredibly slippery and so dangerous. And I’m one to have to learn things twice. 😂

Not far from Home. 🏡
I truly believe I live in Paradise. ♥️

Huckleberries are one of my favourite shrubs when they start to bud and the leaves are about to explode. They always look so beautiful and delicate with the pink colours, making them look like tiny little rosebuds.

I have more pictures of spring buds than just huckleberries, but I wanted to highlight how beautiful the budding huckleberries are. 😍

“Wildflowers are tough; they weather the wind and the rain, but they always bloom again.”

“Flowers grow back even after the harshest winters. You will too.”

“Erythronium, the fawn lily, trout lily, dog's-tooth-violet or adder's tongue, is a genus of Eurasian and North American plants in the lily family, most closely related to tulips. The name Erythronium derives from Ancient Greek ἐρυθρός (eruthrós) "red" in Greek, referring to the red flowers of E. dens-canis. Of all the established species, most live in North America; only seven species are found in Europe and Asia.”

Went hiking to my secret spots to capture some of the first flowers of spring. These Fawn Lilies are the first ones I had seen this year. Their leaves are just as beautiful! I love how they look like little stars on the forest floor. ⭐️ 😍

There are a lot of spring buds on trees and shrubs and little plants right now. Things are coming back to life!! I have a few pictures of that coming up soon. I have been out with my macro lens lately. 🙂

My lens came yesterday, you know the one I broke. I went back out again, 4x4ing with my daughter this time. We went back to this waterfall with my replaced lens and I took the picture I was meaning to take when I was there last time. The sun decided to play too! ☀️ I sure like my new filter that I bought to go with the lens. Way better glass than my last one. I guess something good came out of all that. 😬 That, plus we saw two bush chickens (AKA Grouse, but who calls them that? 😆) while we were out there. 🐓 🐓

“So often like this, in lonely places in the forest, he would come upon something — bird, flower, tree — beautiful beyond all words, if there had been a soul with whom to share it. Beauty is meaningless until it is shared.”
— George Orwell, Burmese Days

I’ve been holding onto this picture of these falls for some time now. They are one of my favourite captures of these falls. I have no idea why I just hung onto it and didn’t share it. Well, since it is Wednesday, it is also waterfall Wednesday on top of , asking to share a water photo. I thought it was high time I shared this one with all the signs pointing its way. It was another day of hiking for this one. 🥾
