I've been updating my website to include new photos, and events where you can see my photographs in person. I am also having a Pre-Calgary Stampede Sale on my website for my acrylic print offerings. The feature one this year is titled "Three Sisters Cascade".

Check out www.stuartcthomas.com for the updates.

Finally, I'm super excited to be showcasing 3 of my photos this year at the Calgary Stampede! I'll let you know later on which photos will be on display. Thanks for your support.

"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go."

Today marks 19 years that I made the move to Alberta. 24 year old Stu didn't know what to expect before moving across the country. But I've said it before, this was the best decision I have ever made. I have been fortunate to have a job, own a house, and most importantly, meet some amazing people who have become good friends of mine. Feeling blessed to have the support of my family and friends throughout my life. There have been some big challenges though. It's not all butterflies and rainbows, but the good definitely out-weighs the not so good. Thanks for letting me stick around here. Cheers!

Oh, and about this photo, probably the most challenging Aurora photo I've taken. Spotlights on the Man Of Vision statue, Aurora dancing in the sky. Can you guess how I got this long exposure to work? Hint: No ai used.

“Just remember, you can do anything you set your mind to, but it takes action, perseverance, and facing your fears.”

Hey it's me! I got some exciting news to share. I'm going to try something new. Been thinking about this for a while and it's now coming to light. Last year I decided to step out of my comfort zone and put myself out there.
First step was being accepted at an artist gallery here in town. If you haven't checked it out yet, visit next time you're in Cochrane. Been a year of learning and growing.
Next step, markets! I've been thinking about doing this for a while. Had some help from a few wonderful people about how it all works, and now is the time to give it a shot. I'll be sharing a table with another wonderful photographer .gallery.
Over the next little while, I'll be putting out ads about markets where you can come see my photography first hand. Even if you don't purchase anything, come visit and see what they actually look like. I'll be having smaller prints (8x10), some 16x20s, and of course, some higher quality prints in other sizes.

Thank you for your support.

Apparently, I am living dangerously. 😉😄.

Safety tips for those exploring at night:
• Always carry bear spray with you. When I'm alone, I'm usually steps from my car, and have the bear spray by my side. You cannot be safe enough.
• When doing road shots, make sure you check all directions. Just because you can see cars coming, doesn't mean they can see you. Stand in a spot where you can see at least 1km up and down the road.
• Keep your car keys and cellphone in your pockets at all times. Crappy to be locked out in the middle of nowhere.
• Make sure you have extra batteries for your headlamp.
• I've met a lot of people in the dark. Usually stopped near me to take photos of the northern lights. Remember that it's only you and them out there, try not to be creepy. Say "hi" and if they respond, introduce yourself, turn your headlamp on so they can see you.
•Trust your instincts. If you feel uneasy being there, leave!
• Don't step on people's property. Rural crime is a thing, and being on others property in the dark might lead to unwanted situations.
• Scout out locations during the day. Pin locations to your Google Maps, so when the lights happen, you can easily go there and know what to expect. Makes setting up the camera easier when you are familiar with the place.

11 Things about me:
1. Born in Bangladesh, grew up in Toronto, lived in Calgary, and now Cochrane.
2. "HardcoreStu" started back when I was a teenager. Everyone was getting an email address and I wanted something different. With my love for wrestling in mind, HardcoreStu was born and it just stuck 28+ years later.
3. I've always been an artist. Drawing, painting, photography, music, anything creative, it's got my curiosity.
4. Kool & The Gang was my first concert, and Snoop Dogg was my last.
5. I've been to over 20 countries but since covid started, I haven't left Canada. This makes me sad.
6. I've participated in 5 straight in Banff, and my times have gotten progressively slower, yet, I'm still happy.
7. This post took me an hour to write cause I hate this stuff.
8. My first camera was a gift when I was 12, followed by an Olympus E-500, then a Canon T3i, and now a Canon 80D. One day I'll make enough money to buy a Canon R5 M2..probably when the R5 M5 comes out..or unless wants to send me one after reading this post. Imagine the photos with a mirrorless 😉😉.
9. One of the reasons I got into photography is so that I didn't have to be in pictures.
10. I've met most of my photographer friends in the dark, on the side of some rural road in the middle of the night, waiting for the northern lights. My photography skills have grown tremendously because of them. I still have not grown maturely.
11. My lucky number.
