I’ve always been one that’s willing to take risks to get the perfect angle! This photo was achieved by me being bare foot, carefully placing each step on slippery rocks on the bottom of this stream until I got to the middle where the water was about 12” deep. Once I was in a good position, I setup my tripod upside down so that my camera would hang just inches above the water (for those who don’t know, in landscape photography, the closer the camera is to the foreground, the better) where I could then take long exposure photos of this waterfall. Talk about needing to know your camera well, I had to adjust my settings on the fly with my camera upside down working completely blind as I am unable to see any of the buttons or dials. Doing this type of thing definitely gets my heart racing, but it’s also this type of thing that makes me feel so alive! Knowing that I’m just one simple mistake away from losing everything I own for photography is what makes this so thrilling for me… and it’s what keeps me coming back to it over and over again!
If you’ve been following me for long enough, you’d know I actually ruined a camera by having it on a kayak with me when I flipped it… still didn’t learn my lesson with bringing my camera near water! But the good photos almost never come from playing it safe!
