We’re alive! 👋🏼❤️

Firstly, we want to start with an apology.

It’s been a couple of months (at least!) since we last posted, and we genuinely had no idea our radio silence would cause people to worry. To everyone who reached out to check we were OK, we’re so very sorry for disappearing… and we’re also incredibly grateful to have been in your thoughts. ❤️

So… an update!

We’re officially moved into the new Chonky Den! 🏡

There is still so much to do. We’re spring cleaning, unpacking, buying all the boring essentials… you know how it goes. You reach for a dishcloth, only to discover you don’t actually own any dishcloths yet. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Life has been incredibly busy over the past few months, and, if we’re honest, it probably will be for the next few as well.

We’ve not had a proper home for almost ten years. First Africa, then the Middle East, followed by almost three years of full-time nomadic life. Going from all of that to a small rural cottage in magnificent County Kerry has been quite the adventure in itself.

Some of our belongings have been sitting in storage for more than eight years. We’ve finally managed to bring everything together in one place, and after what can only be described as a truly epic sorting session, we’re slowly turning our wonderfully quirky old farmhouse into a home.

Every morning we wake up feeling incredibly lucky. Living in such a beautiful part of the world genuinely takes our breath away.

This morning we even escaped the unpacking for a few hours and wandered around an old favourite of ours, Muckross House and Park. Sometimes you just need to put the boxes and brushes down and remind yourself why you worked so hard to get here.

We’ll keep you updated as we settle in.

Behind the scenes we’re also working hard to prepare for some fantastic adventures next year. Having a cosy home certainly doesn’t mean the end of the Trundles. It just means we’ll finally have somewhere to come home to.

You’ll also get to watch us stumble our way through country life… vegetable growing, learning new skills (ginger bugging 😬), making a whole heap of mistakes as always along the way. 🌱😂

So thank you, thank you, thank you for your patience, your kindness and your support. We honestly can’t tell you how much it means to us.

This is it! The final leg of our Wild Atlantic Way adventure is finally uploaded to YT!

After 1,600 miles of twisty-winding roads, Atlantic storms, tiny villages, even tinier tracks, mountain passes, cable cars, phenomenal beaches, water worries, unforgettable campspots, and more cucumber sandwiches than anyone should reasonably eat… we finally reached Malin Head, the most Northerly point of Ireland. It was a truly wild and windy day, which was kind of a perfect ending to this wild adventure.

This last stretch took us from the quiet beauty of Doohooma, to the austere and lonely Malin Head lighthouse, to be literally swept off our feet by the gales. Hedwig, our faithful drone played his part, so there’s lots of aerial footage in this episode too.

If you’ve followed us this far, thank you as always from the bottom of our hearts for traveling with us. If you’re new to the channel, a big welcome and we hope you will subscribe to stay with us. The adventures are just beginning. Keep Trundling ❤️🐌❤️

It was a very short, but incredibly successful jaunt home this time. It’s always so good to be back, and we settle back in very quickly. We’re sad to be leaving so soon, but we’re also looking forward to seeing family and great friends again too. We will be back soon, and when we do, it will be a whole new chapter. We can’t wait. Slán go fóill Ireland ❤️🇮🇪🏡

We called in at the Trundle Den to, a) have another look around before heading to the UK for some pet-sitting commitments, and b) to do some more measuring up for planning… and met our local barn cat 🐈‍⬛.

She’s a beauty, and a real character, so now we need a name. Suggestions please… Anyone that knows us knows that the visits may become a regular thing 😻

The penultimate episode of our Wild Atlantic Way series is now (finally) uploaded to YT. This stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way was particularly exciting for us.

We left Westport and headed north to Achill Island, a place very close to our hearts after spending 7 weeks camping there and walking the Great Western Greenway to train for our 700km Island Walk in Prince Edward Island. Going back there always feels special, like coming home.

From there we pushed on to Doohooma, which we’d never heard of, and suspect you haven’t either. We were so not ready for it. The wild Atlantic coastline and empty beaches were genuinely breathtaking. So much so that we spent and extra day parked on the beach and saw no one. It was everything VanLife should be.

The weather was fabulous so Hedwig was out and about, which means lots of drone footage to enjoy. So hop aboard and come along with us through some of the most fabulous scenery that magical Mayo has to offer.

No matter where we go, we gravitate to the animals in the vicinity 🐕🫏❤️ We’ve got a few days break after our house-hunting was much more successful and faster than anticipated. Time to catch up on some reading, knitting, and of course… getting to know the locals ❤️

Exciting news… we’re moving! 🐌🏡🇮🇪

We’re swapping nomadic life for a small 19th century farmhouse in rural Kerry. It still feels a bit surreal to be saying that out loud.

Before anyone worries, the Trundling is not stopping. Long walks, Caminos, road trips with Vandalf, slow travel… that’s who we are, and that part stays exactly the same.

What IS changing is that after nearly three years of being on the move, we’ll have a proper base between adventures. Somewhere to return to. A Trundler Den… and that opens the door to a new layer of life for us.

We’re going to be trying our hand at some traditional skills: growing veg, having a go at sourdough, fermenting drinks. Maybe even butter or cheese… we’ll see how brave we feel.

As always, we start from ground zero. We are complete beginners. Not gardeners, not homesteaders, not DIYers, so expect a few disasters along the way 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♀️😂

The move is still over a month away, so we’ll share more as it all unfolds. For now, just know this: Same Chonky Trundlers. New layer incoming 🌳🏡🧑🏼‍🌾👩🏼‍🌾🌳🇮🇪❤️
