Two extraordinary nights beneath the northern lights.
Canmore, Alberta, Canada.
Experiencing two extraordinary aurora events just five months apart right here in the Canadian Rockies, is something I'll never forget. This is literally one of the craziest things I've ever photographed and I'm incredibly lucky to have experienced both of these nights alongside my wife who was out there photographing them too.
October 10, 2024. Extraordinary Aurora Event
Vivid pinks, magentas and purples illuminated the night sky over the Canadian Rockies creating an unforgettable night beneath the northern lights.
May 10, 2024. The Great Geomagnetic Storm
A series of powerful coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the Sun sent solar material hurtling towards Earth triggering one of the most significant geomagnetic storms in recent decades.
NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center issued a G4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm watch, the first such watch since 2005. The storm ultimately reached a planetary Kp index of 9, allowing auroras to be seen at unusually low latitudes.
