Happy new year!
Wow, what a year 2024 turned out to be. From high highs, to rock bottom lows.
But it's ending on a high, and as I reflect on the good things this year I'm filled with gratitude.
It started when I finally finished "When I Kiss Your Cheek Goodnight" after 10 years of telling the kids I would.
Which was followed by the greatest side quest of all as I jumped on the opportunity to start making dragon pins with Pintopia, an adventure which not only introduced the Derpy Dragons to me, but launched my most successful year as an artist. And it's going strong into the new year!
I drew the most art ever this year! With 50 commissions for authors! In my goal picture, my goal was 30! And my dream was to be hired by a book box - a dream which will happen in January! 🥰🥰🥰
Not only have these commissions challenged me as an artist, but with each author taking a chance on me I am humbled that they chose me, and I can't express how grateful I am for each of these amazing people.
But, as an artist it's important to make art for myself as well. My goal was 60 illustrations. One which I blew out of the water! With 117 art pieces between fully painted illustrations, derpy dragons, and the kids book! I have always dreamt of this life, yet never thought I could make it happen.
My writing has had a few rough bumps this year - mostly due to things out of my control. But I'm riding the wave of forgiveness, flexibility and going with the flow. I fully wrote "Star Awakened" this year as I planned - but due to editing delays it won't be published till 2025. But, it doesn't mean I'm not happy with my writing this year. The book is even bigger and better than I imagined, clocking in over 114,000 words!
Plus, I wrote the first draft of another series for both book 1 & half book 2.
So, it's a slow marathon. But it is happening.
My photography has taken a bit of a backseat. There were months I couldn't do any shoots due to my knee surgeries, as well as when we moved the boys downstairs and I had to completely redo my studio setup. But I am still working on my clay art book. Which after almost 2 years is nearing completion! With publishing either late 2025 or 2026! I am finally back to it, and hopeful to start welcoming a steady stream of clients once more.
Plus, I achieved Master Photographer after 9 years of being a photographer!
In my personal life things have been rocky. But I'm pushing through. And my art is keeping me afloat mentally.
Needless to say, I have big things planned for 2025! My goals are to improve even more in my art and writing. I want to create more, inspire more and build this dream of creating a sustainable artist business and life.
