From the BC coastline to NFL bound...

After years of following its incredible journey, I finally had the privilege of photographing North America's famous Steller's Sea Eagle along the coast of Newfoundland.

This isn't just any eagle—it's believed to be the same individual that first appeared in Alaska in 2020 after somehow wandering thousands of kilometres from its native range in eastern Russia. Since then, it has captivated birders across the continent (Texas, Massachusetts, Maine, Nova Scotia) before making Newfoundland its seasonal home.

Standing face-to-face with one of the world's largest and rarest sea eagles was an unforgettable experience. This was certainly one of those fabulous birding moments. 🦅

What started as a trip to Vancouver Island to find the rare Bean-Goose turned into something even more unforgettable.

Not only did I get to see the goose (my 3rd attempt 🫢), I also had the incredible 🍀 of seeing a Coastal Wolf in the wild.

Seeing a wolf is special enough, but watching one in its natural habitat on Vancouver Island was a moment I'll never forget.

Nature has a way of rewarding patience with the most unexpected surprises. Days like this are why I love getting out with my camera—you never know what incredible encounter is waiting around the next corner.

A Common Loon taking off from its necessary watery runway!

Unlike many birds that can launch almost vertically, loons need a long stretch of open water to get airborne. They paddle furiously while flapping, essentially “running” across the surface for tens to even hundreds of feet. 🛫

These photos illustrate how far back the legs are positioned on a very long torpedo-shaped body - this propels them well through water, but on land - awkwardly grounded.
