This is what letting go looks like.

No overthinking. No pressure. Just showing up, having fun, and being completely in the moment.

You don’t need to know how to do this, I’ll guide you through it:

“She made the entire process feel relaxing and enjoyable.”

This is something I hear a lot…
but it’s usually not what people expect going in.

Most people assume a photoshoot will feel:
awkward
intimidating
or like they have to “perform” in front of the camera

But that’s not how it works here.

You’re guided.
You’re supported.
You’re never left wondering what to do next.

And little by little…
you stop overthinking it.

You start to relax.
You start to enjoy it.
You start to feel like yourself again.

That’s when the real moments happen.

If being “not comfortable in front of the camera” has been holding you back, you’re in very good company.

There’s something about stepping into something a little different…

A little more bold
A little more you

And realizing it fits.

This is what happens when you give yourself permission to try.

“In the midst of her battle, you made her feel like the most important person on the planet.”

I read this message from Kerry with tears in my eyes.

Her wife, Michelle, had been through so much… and to know that, even for a single day, she felt seen, celebrated, and like herself again, that means everything to me.

We often think we need to wait.
Until we feel better.
Until life slows down.
Until everything is “just right.”

But the truth is…
those are the moments that matter most.

The photos they created together are now part of their home.
Part of their memories.
Part of the way Michelle is still felt and remembered every day.

This is why I do what I do.

Not just for beautiful images…
but for the moments, the connection, and the legacy they leave behind.

If you’ve been thinking about doing something like this, don’t wait for the “perfect” time.

One thing I love about portrait photography is capturing people in moments of transition.

Not just major milestones, but the quieter shifts in confidence that happen as someone grows into themselves.

The strongest portraits aren’t always the most posed or polished.

Sometimes they simply capture someone feeling comfortable in their own skin, and that authenticity is what makes an image timeless.

“She went above and beyond to create a personalized and luxurious photoshoot.”

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience.

Before we ever step into the studio,
I take the time to get to know you, your story, and what matters most.

Because your photos shouldn’t look like anyone else’s.

From styling…
to location…
to the overall feel of the session…

Every detail is chosen with intention.

So what you walk away with isn’t just beautiful images,
but something that feels personal, meaningful, and completely your own.

That’s the difference between a photoshoot…
and an experience you’ll never forget.

You only turn 40 once.

She wanted to do something bold… something just for her.

Sometimes the bravest thing we do is finally take up space in our own story.

Have you ever done something completely outside your comfort zone?

4 images.
Selected for Canada’s National Image Salon.

But the real story is not the award.

It’s what these images represent.

The women who thought they were not photogenic.
The ones who almost didn’t do it.
The ones who did anyway.

And the moments that made me stop and feel something before I even pressed the shutter.

If you want to see the full story behind these images, it’s in the link in my bio.

4 images.
Selected for Canada’s National Image Salon.

But the real story is not the award.

It’s the range of what drew me in.

The women who thought they were not photogenic.
The ones who almost didn’t do it.
The ones who did anyway.

And the moments, like a storm rolling in over Italy, that you feel before you even press the shutter.

See the images and the story behind them here:

Calgary photographer Laurie MacBrown has 4 images selected for the Professional Photographers of Canada National Image Salon.
