This won't be the end, but I do think it is well overdue for a change. For years, I have struggled with the social media aspect of this job. AI has made things 10x worse, but I think we all feel that these apps which were originally designed to create a sense of unity and connection have morphed into something drastically different that seeks to divide and isolate us. We all are trapped in our own echo chambers, and seeing 10:1 ads versus the actual posts that our friends make.

My last post saw many comments saying "You can't escape AI anyways", "Your clients will just post their photos on these same platforms so what does it matter", "You can do x,y,z to keep your images from being useable by AI". The thing is, none of those are really the point. Giant tech and social media companies are increasingly implementing massive overreach, pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with farther and farther. And we keep letting them stretch it. I just think I have reached my breaking point. If I cannot take this teeny tiny stand for what I believe in, who will? I believe fundamentally in the power of many, and the power of one person to use small every day choices to make a difference. What we do matters. What we say mattes. How we spend our money matters. Where and who we spend our time with matters. What we eat and where it comes from matters. Where we choose to live mattes. Who we vote for matters. Every single minute decision we make in our lives matters far more than we think. And choosing to stay on this platform when it goes so strongly against my beliefs, matters. It says that I will choose the status quo and fear of the unknown against taking a stand for something that I believe in. And that is just not who I am.

I am not sure what the next chapter will bring, but I know I'll be writing it somewhere different. I will keep my personal profiles active for now, and anyone is welcome to friend/follow those accounts. Running a business has always felt hard, trust me it is not for the faint of heart, but running a business in 2026 feels nearly impossible. If you haven't heard, starting October 30th Meta is implementing new terms and conditions which will apply to business accounts. These new terms will basically give them unlimited access to the content posted on business pages to train their AI. There is no way to opt out and they will have unfettered access to anything published, including captions, writing, images, videos etc.

If you have spent any time on this page or with me, you know that I am incredibly against AI, with every fibre of my being. It steals from humanity in so many ways, from blatantly stealing and copying artist's works, to stealing our creative energy and problem solving nature, and stealing the fresh water we drink and the clean air we breathe. The thought of my images and content being used to train AI makes my skin crawl. It goes against everything that I believe in. Which is why I am very seriously considering permanently closing my Facebook and Instagram business pages. While I have not made a certain decision yet, it is absolutely not something I consider lightly. Navigating growing a business without social media sounds absolutely terrifying, especially when this is my only source of income. But the alternative is to continue to accept massive over reaches from tech companies without doing anything to try and check their power, and I don't think I can do that.

The horse world is not a very big place, and especially the dressage community in Western Canada, which is why a loss like this is felt so deeply. My heart breaks for the owners of the three horses lost in this tragedy, and my thoughts are with Flirty and her owner as she faces recovery.

I did not know anyone involved, maybe we crossed paths at a show, maybe we didn't, but I think we can all see ourselves in this tragedy. We all hug our horses a little tighter, knowing we've loaded them countless times onto a trailer and been lucky enough to unload them on the other side.

I wish everyone involved peace and healing 🤍🕊️ and may the three beautiful horses rest in peace.

Wrapping up the feel-good Friday posts for August with this adorable moment between Kat's horses and her father. As someone who doesn't come from a "horsey" family, it is always so sweet to see your parents interacting with your animals, especially if they aren't a horse/animal person. I know that capturing these tender moments meant so much to Kat, and even though this was a black background session, I couldn't not capture these treasured memories.

Do you have a favourite memory of a parent or family member interacting with your horse(s)? At my house warming party, many of our guests fed the horses watermelon, and it was adorable seeing them all so captivated by the horses. My younger horse Enzo was also particularly obsessed with my friend Jadin's baby, which was so cute! He just couldn't get enough baby snuggles!

A funny blooper for you on today's feel-good Friday! Every horse person knows that horses are not really the graceful and majestic creatures portrayed in media (and captured in most of my images). The reality is a very a very silly and clumsy animal which you watch have it's fair share of "OH S**T" moments in the pasture, as you cross your fingers and hope there won't be an expensive vet bill to follow. But oh we can't help but love them ❤️🐴
