Preserving Memories
for Generations to Come…

Scanning Photos - It’s something we’ve all wanted to get done. Let’s turn that someday into today and preserve our precious memories in a digital format. This digital format will give us flexibility to share our photos through photobooks, email, and other digital means. Album Design - A beautifully curated book is our specialty - books that can be shared with friends, family and generations to come. Memory sharing, laughing, and family bonding are much better done over a tangible book than a computer screen or a hard drive. Pictures on Pages will take your photos, preserve them and turn them into a treasure wrapped in nostalgia and love. Take a look at some sample pages and testimonials on the Gallery page, and when you're ready, place your order and get started on making your memories into a work of art. http://picturesonpages.com/gallery/

I was chatting with someone recently whose grade 12 daughter is thinking about going into funeral services. I asked her to tell me more, and I learned that these students are trained both in embalming and in running a funeral home. 🕊️

It got me thinking about everything that goes into that work: all the training, the care, and the countless details, so that families going through their worst times can say their last goodbyes. It isn’t for the person who has passed. It’s for the family, so they can remember and grieve as smoothly as possible.

To everyone who works in that industry: thank you. 💛

It reminded me how many small things we do in life work together to make hard times easier. And that includes our family photos.
I can’t tell you how many people have told me that at the funeral, or after, sitting around at home, they bring out the photo books and the albums. That’s what helps us as we grieve.

If you’re in a season of loss right now, I’m so sorry. I hope you have everything you need to get through it.

And because we will all go through those seasons, getting our photos done ahead of time really matters. Don’t wait until you need them. 📸

A fun story from yesterday! 📖

My daughter and her friend were sitting down getting their hair braided, and they pulled out some of our annual family photo books. “No, no, no, get the one where your hair was really short!”

They flipped through, remembering everything. “Oh my gosh, I remember that!” She spotted her older sister wearing her shirt.

Her friend is in the book too, so she kept saying, “Remember when we did this?”
Then they got to a coat. “That was your oldest sister’s coat, and now it’s yours.” And my daughter said, “Well, that’s what we do in our family. The clothes move through the family.” (She’s describing hand-me-downs, just so we’re clear. 😂 Except for her brother. He doesn’t get them. Three girls, one boy.)

And I realized: right there, without making it a big thing, she was teaching her friend our family culture. We’re a hand-me-down family. Hooray!

That’s how family culture gets passed down: through stories. And stories get passed down when we can see them, remember them, and tell them.

That’s why I encourage all my clients to make family photo books. They help you pass down the stories that would otherwise get forgotten. 💛

Someone asked me: what do you do with VHS tapes, camcorder tapes, and reels from the 1960s and 70s? 🎞️

Here’s the answer: we digitize everything, and then we organize it.

We never want to hand back digital slop. You know, a USB full of files named video1, video2, video3, video4. That’s a great first step, but it’s only the first step. We want it to actually be useful to your family.

Let’s be honest: if it’s a two-hour or six-hour VHS, ain’t nobody sitting down to watch that. 😅 Especially in this Instagram and Facebook world where we’re used to 30-second clips.
So we break it into bite-size pieces, not 30 seconds, but all under 20 minutes.

Then we run it through transcription software to find out exactly what’s on there. We date it as best we can, and we label it so you can find it later.

So when you or your kids want to find that band concert (because everybody wants to watch their old band concerts!) or those soccer games, there’s context your computer or phone can search.

And you get a little summary of what each video is about, so you don’t have to scrub through everything to find what you’re looking for.

That’s a quick look at what we do with video. We love it! ❤️

One of my clients texted me with a win today.

Her son, who’s now in his 30s, called and said, “Mom, I need a picture from when I was in elementary school, like one of my school photos from grade two or three.”

She said, “Oh, just one second!” And she found the grade two or three photo, pulled it up, and texted it to him right away. 📱

WIN! 🎉

That’s what getting your photos organized is really for: finding the one you need in seconds, not digging through boxes. 📸

Did you know it’s the 100th anniversary of Winnie the Pooh? 🐻 I just learned that on the news this morning, and I’d forgotten that Pooh is Canadian!
The story goes that a man who had just come home from the army bought a bear for $20. The bear eventually ended up at the zoo, where A.A. Milne watched it capture the attention of his young son, Christopher Robin. The soldier had named the bear Winnie, after his hometown of Winnipeg. 🇨🇦
One of my favorite quotes, one I go back to constantly, is a lesson from Pooh: “Everybody’s all right, really.” Everybody’s got good stuff and everybody’s got bad stuff, but everybody’s all right, really. I love that.
What stuck with me most was the interview with the soldier’s great-granddaughter. She sat there with the old pictures on the table, telling the story of Winnie the Pooh and this important part of her family’s history, with the help of those photos.
Maybe we didn’t all write a Canadian, world-classic story about a bear bought for $20 after someone got home from the war. But we’ve all got family stories. Let’s get out our pictures and tell them. 📸

Scanned Isn’t Finished

People often ask me what the most important part of a big, multi-decade photo project is. It’s hard to narrow down, because every step matters. But if I had to pick one, it’s this: don’t stop before the project is actually done.

To me, a project isn’t done until there’s a photo book in the hands of the people who matter. 📖

There’s a big difference between a client hearing “all your pictures are scanned and organized, and you can find them in the cloud” and a client opening a book while the whole family piles around them. “Oh my gosh, that’s you growing up, Mom!” “That looks exactly like me!”

Those are the moments where the investment pays off: the hours, and the thousands of dollars it takes to make a project like this happen. And it keeps paying off for years. 💛

I just had the chance to return a project to a client: all of their family photos, from the time she was born right up until now. Decades and decades of pictures. 📸

It happened to be Canadian Thanksgiving, so we got to hand it over just as her whole family was about to arrive. And as everyone came together, something special happened.
There were three generations in the room: grandma, my client, and my client’s daughter, who’s just home from university.

We had pictures going all the way back to grandma’s.

Here’s the best part. The daughter had never seen photos of her mom as a child. They’d always been in big albums at the back of a bookcase that nobody ever brought out. She got to see them for the first time. And guess what? She looks exactly like her mom and her grandma. 🥹

Don’t let your photos sit in the back of a bookcase. They’re meant to be seen.

ORGANIZED COLLECTIONS: The Relief is REAL

My client literally cried when I handed her the final external hard drive and the organized final bins.

Not sad tears.

RELIEF tears.

She said:

"I've been carrying this weight for 15 years. And it's DONE. It's actually DONE."

The weight of unorganized photos is REAL.

Even if you're not actively working on them.

Even if you've pushed them to the back of the closet.

They're still there.

Weighing on you.

Every time you walk past that closet.

Every time someone asks for a photo and you can't find it.

Every time you think "I really should deal with those..."

It's EXHAUSTING.

But here's what I see happen when the project is DONE:

Immediate relief:

💕 "I can finally breathe."
💕 "I don't feel guilty anymore."
💕 "That weight is GONE."

Unexpected joy:

💕 "I forgot we even took this photo!"
💕 "I'm actually ENJOYING looking at photos now instead of dreading them."
💕 "My kids keep asking to look through the books."

Deep satisfaction:

💕 "I fulfilled my responsibility as the Picture Keeper."
💕 "I did what I said I'd do."
💕 "My family's legacy is SAFE."

And here's the thing:

You don't have to carry that weight anymore.

The bins. The guilt. The "I'll deal with it someday."

You can be DONE.

Photos organized. Digitized. Backed up. In beautiful books.

And instead of guilt, you get to feel PRIDE.

Pride that you took care of this.
Pride that you preserved your family's history.
Pride that you're passing down a GIFT, not a burden.

The relief is real. And it's waiting for you. 💛

ORGANIZED COLLECTIONS: The Photobook on the Coffee Table

You know what's better than 47 bins of photos in the closet?

ONE beautiful photobook on the coffee table.

That actually gets OPENED.

By actual PEOPLE.

Who actually LOOK at it.

I delivered photobooks to a client last month.

She texted me three days later:

"My teenage son hasn't looked up from his phone in 6 months. Last night he sat on the couch for AN HOUR flipping through the family photobook - he was even asking questions. I cried. Thank you."

THIS is what organized photos do.

They stop being "Mom's project in the closet."

They become LIVING FAMILY HISTORY.

Here's what happens when you have beautiful photobooks:

Your kids actually flip through them (shocker!)

Your grandkids ask "who is THIS?"

Your aging parents light up seeing themselves young

Guests at your house pick them up and get lost in your story

Photos stop being a burden and become a TREASURE.

But only if they're accessible.

Nobody's digging through bins to reminisce.

Nobody's scrolling through 40,000 unsorted phone photos for fun.

But a beautiful book on the shelf?

That gets picked up. Enjoyed. Shared. LOVED.

And THAT'S the whole point.

Photos aren't meant to be archived and forgotten.

They're meant to connect us.

To our past. To each other. To who we are and where we came from.

An organized photo collection isn't about being perfect.

It's about being PRESENT. 💛

It's about making family history ACCESSIBLE so it actually gets used.

Not "someday when I have time."

Today. Tonight. This weekend. Right now.

What's sitting on YOUR coffee table? (If it's not a photobook of your family, let's fix that! Link in bio.) 📚✨
