It's easy to think you'll remember the little things.

The hammock in the backyard.
The way they fit beside you.
The conversations that happened at the end of a summer day.

But those are often the first memories to fade.

That's why photographs matter.

When people hear "family photography," they often picture young children.

But family is so much bigger than that.

It's grandparents. Adult children. Empty nesters. New relationships. Long relationships. And sometimes, it's the bond between a person and the pet who has been by their side through it all.

Documentary family photography isn't about a particular age or stage of life.

It's about the relationships that matter most.

Sometimes, those relationships are found in a quiet walk with an old friend who just happens to have four legs.

This photograph brings back so many good memories.

A road trip to BC, kids piled into the back of the car, and the kind of friendship that becomes part of your family story over time.

These are the moments I find myself cherishing more and more as the years pass — not perfection, just real life together.

I’m especially grateful this photograph was recently recognized by Fearless Family Photographers, but more than anything, I’m grateful to have this memory preserved at all.

Childhood feels a little bit like this.
Light, shadows, curiosity, and looking out the window wondering what’s next.

Sometimes what prompts moms to reach out to me is the realization that their child is getting ready to leave for university.

One day, it suddenly hits you just how grown they are — and how many years are already behind you. You know change is inevitable, but you want something to hold onto. A photograph that can transport you back to this season of life… the feeling of it, the little moments, the ordinary evenings together.

When her daughter is away at school one day, I know this mom will look back at these photographs and smile.

It’s not perfect. Life isn’t perfect.

But this is real life — the hugs, the eye rolls, the tiny funny moments that don’t seem important at the time… until they become the things you miss most.
