One of the reasons I love working with grads so much is that it reflects the season we are in as a family.

This is year 3 of 4 graduations in 4 years, and although I would love for life to slow down a wee bit, I am also so pleased with who our grads are becoming.

This weekend we celebrated our daughter Piper’s grade 9 graduation from Menno Simon’s Christian School. She started there as a kindy 10 years ago and this community has left an indelible mark on our family.

We are SO thankful for the amazing teachers and support staff who have poured into, loved on and believed in each of our kids.

They understand that they are capable of more than could have imagined because of this community’s investment in them.

More than a few tears have been shed by me in the last few weeks as we close the chapter on this season and turn the page to the next.

Piper, dad and I are SO proud of you. Happy grad!

What was supposed to be a one-hour coffee date turned into two and a half hours of conversation, laughter, and connection.

And somewhere along the way, Rob and Morgan realized they had fallen in love with their best friend.

Spending the evening with these two at Bighorn Lookout felt exactly like that.

The ease and comfort they share kept the session moving along allowing us to explore this beautiful spot and create some magic.

We can’t wait for your big day later this summer. ❤️

Confidence in photos starts with clear direction from your photographer.

From the moment JULES LAWFORD reached out about her senior photos she had a clear vision for what she wanted.

The only thing she requested was location suggestions and clear direction on what to do in front of the camera.

With some easy prompts and poses throughout the session she nailed it.

Juliet, we wish you the best in the next sunny chapter of your life. Congratulations!

One of the most frequent questions I get during grad season is “Should I schedule my grad photos on graduation day?”

The answer isn’t always yes... and it isn’t always no.

Try this quick checklist:

• Do you want an outfit change?
YES → Consider a separate session day

• Will getting to your photo location add stress to an already busy day?
YES → Consider a separate session day

• Is the dress, the excitement, and the graduation day experience the main story you want to remember?
YES → A same-day session could work beautifully

Shayla checked all the boxes for a same-day graduation session:
✔ Hair and makeup at home
✔ Photos at home
✔ A park just 2 minutes away
✔ A simple timeline with room to breathe

The result? Photos that captured not just how graduation looked, but how it felt.

If you’re trying to decide whether to schedule your grad photos on graduation day or a separate date, I just published a new article that walks through the questions I encourage every graduate and parent to ask before making that decision.

Head to the link in my bio to read the full guide.

Tell me in the comments: if you were planning your grad photos, would you choose a same-day session or a separate day?

Not being worried about posing.

Before every grad session, I take time to learn about who my clients are and what they love so we can create images that feel authentic to them.

Jocelyn wanted a mix of candid and posed images, lots of laughter, and a nature-inspired setting in Calgary to complement her dress.

I’d say she nailed it.

Congratulations Jocelyn and we wish you well on your next steps!

This grad session that kicked off our 2026 season reminded me of everything I love about photographing these personalized shoots.

No two grads are the same. We create a special bond with our grads as we get to know them and are so invested in creating images of themselves that they will love. We aim to showcase what makes them so special and so loved by their families and friends.

Congratulations .kruger_ and thank you for trusting us with this special milestone.

Well that was fun!

Hiding in the bushes with camera in hand while Aiden staked out “the spot” for this proposal was definitely a highlight of our work this month.

A heartfelt congratulations to Brett and Caitlyn, the newly engaged sweet couple. It was an honor to help pull off this surprise and capture the moment against this stunning Kananaskis backdrop.

Last grad season didn’t always give us perfect conditions.

There were evenings when wind, smoke, and sudden weather shifts could have easily ended a session early.

But those moments often created the most unique images.

Not because everything went perfectly —
but because everyone stayed flexible and took the chance to work with what was in front of us.

It also taught us that some of the best photos come from the unexpected.

We can’t wait to see what surprises this season holds.
