Cargojet’s Boeing 767-300 freighter, lifting off from runway 17R at YYC for Vancouver.

This aircraft’s Canadian roots go back to 1988, when it was delivered to Canadian Airlines. It later flew passengers with Air Canada before undergoing a freighter conversion in 2020—continuing its career carrying cargo across the skies.

De Havilland Canada's Boeing 737-500, arriving from Victoria, perfectly framed against the De Havilland hangar at YYC.

Built in 1990 and operated by SkyService Business Aviation, this 737 carries another aircraft manufacturer’s name—a distinctive combination, complete with red and gold maple leaves!

Air Canada's Airbus A330-300, taxiing towards runway 35R at YYC for an eastbound domestic departure.

At nearly 64 metres long with a wingspan of 60.3 metres, the A330 makes quite an impression from this angle.

Zimex Aviation’s De Havilland DHC-6-300G Twin Otter, MSN 1003, taxiing back towards the apron at YYC.

An interesting detail can be seen around the registration, beneath the Canadian registration C-FHXD, traces of the aircraft’s Swiss registration are still visible.

A neat catch of a brand-new Twin Otter during the transition between manufacturer and operator.

Royal Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III taxiing towards the Signature Aviation FBO, making for an imposing sight on the Calgary ramp.

The RAF marked 25 years of C-17 operations in 2026. Its eight-aircraft Globemaster fleet remains a key strategic heavy-lift capability, moving troops, vehicles and outsized cargo around the world for military, humanitarian and aeromedical missions.

Nice to finally capture this aircraft with the YYC control tower in the background!

American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 accelerating down runway 35L at YYC for departure to Dallas/Fort Worth — a scene from the final year this particular aircraft flew with American.

Built in 1993, the aircraft originally flew with TWA before joining American Airlines in 2001. It was withdrawn from service and stored at Roswell in August 2016, while American’s remaining MD-80 fleet continued flying until the type’s final retirement in September 2019.

Air Spray’s BAe 146-200A Airtanker 580 up close at Red Deer Regional Airport before heading south to Montana.

Originally built as a passenger jet, the four-engine BAe 146 has found a second life as an aerial firefighting platform, where its performance and maneuverability make it well suited for airtanker operations. This aircraft carries Air Spray’s striking forest-themed 580 livery, making it especially photogenic from every angle.

Hard to beat getting this close to one of these classic four-engine firefighting jets — including a look inside the cockpit.

United Boeing 737-800s taxiing towards runway 35L at YYC, showing off two generations of United’s livery.

With fewer aircraft still wearing the older colours, it’s only a matter of time before that look disappears completely.
