It's been a hot minute since I posted last, sometimes life just happens, things get busy and there just isn't the time to be active on social media.

We've moved home, closed one studio location and (almost) opened the new one. School holidays, work trips, family and friend visits all add up. There's only so much of me to go around!

Right now I'm sat up a Californian mountain at Lake Arrowhead, relaxing after another work trip. Soaking up the sun and cool(er) mountain air.

I have many photos of recent shoots to share, so stand by for them :)

The new studio will reopen soon, expect for cracking deals :)

In the meantime, enjoy this shot of the San Bernardino mountains

A week of news, so let me bring it together.

The current studio: a handful of July sessions remaining. One whole year shooting and making memories in that space. If you want to be part of the last of it -- now.

The new studio: opens August 1st. SW Calgary. More space, different vibe, same experience. Bookings open now.

Hair and makeup, the wardrobe, every pose guided, the conversation afterwards.

None of that changes.

Just a better room to do it in.

She said something I hadn't heard before.

"I want to go to the boardroom and have the same confidence I have here. Or the other way round.

Borrow from each version of myself."

I thought that was a remarkably precise description of what the session actually does.

Not a different version of you. The same one. Just -- remembered.

One year in a studio.
Three years in the previous studio.

I've been thinking about that this week while packing.

The things women said in those spaces. The things they did for the first time. The first many have expressed themselves authentically, first time they did something for themselves in years or decades even! So many wonderful memories and connections made.

A studio is just a room. But a room where hundreds or women decided they were worth showing up for -- that means something.

I'll carry it into the new space.

My expiry date was four years ago.

I'm still going.

For 30 years my body put me through things that are difficult to describe.

And I finally -- finally -- started calling it a friend.

She brought her husband.

He waited in the other room -- genuinely more anxious about the whole thing than she was.

At one point I checked on him. He told me: "I feel a little bit nauseous." He joined us shortly after and loved the experience as much as she did!

She came out of the session looking like herself.

She aged out of the foster care system at 18.

Became a foster parent herself.

Then adopted a child with a terminal illness and has been raising him alone.
She is his fierce advocate.

She told me that when the ad appeared in her feed she just thought: I have to do this for me.

Not when things settle down. Not when it's easier. Now.

She told me something I've never forgotten.

As a child she had a grandmother who was blind. The grandmother's way of expressing affection was to feel her grandchildren's bodies -- and what she said was never kind.

She told me she spent decades carrying those words in her body without ever tracing them back to that room.

It took therapy at 40 to make the connection.

Then she came in here.

I have a client who is on her third session.

The first time she came in she could barely make eye contact with the camera. The second time she was different. Third time she walked in like she owned the room.

When I asked her recently why she keeps coming back she said: "Any time I'm having a bad day I look at my pictures. And I remember."

That's the long game. That's what the photos are actually for.
