HRBN Stories Where Stories Take Root — Q&As, Community Movement, Seasonal Blooms

Her Roots by Nature (HRBN), is a storytelling space created by Eartha Lowe, where interviews, reflections, and community voices come together through lived experience and thoughtful narrative. Cultivated through nature, memory, and connection, this work explores the meaningful ways our stories shape how we see ourselves, each other, and the world we move through. Here you’ll find conversations with creatives, personal reflections, and seasonal moments that highlight the beauty of everyday life.

We spend so much time mourning imagined futures that we forget life is still waiting for us in the present.

This Sunday, I’m reflecting on the 'scripts' we follow and the 'blue light' we chase. My new piece, The Blue Light Lure, is now live on Substack. It’s a look at self-abandonment, the exhaustion of maintaining a facade, and the necessary, often painful, return to our own truth.

If you’ve ever felt like you were living a life that didn't belong to you, I hope this story finds you well. You can read the full reflection here:

A surprise in the garden this season.
It's a gift in a botanical way.

Gardeners, tell me honestly…
What mysterious plant has randomly appeared in your garden before?

This morning arrived in a blush of soft pink…

Spring vibes are officially here, and the community spirit is in full bloom. Consider this your friendly nudge to hit the brakes and enjoy the view for a minute this long weekend! It’ll be lovely to soak in that fresh green scenery, let some spring air into the house, and reconnect with people and spots that keep us feeling like ourselves.

Surrender to the pace of the season. Enjoy it all!

The true beauty of storytelling lies in its capacity to act as a catalyst, where one narrative inevitably calls forth another.

Inspired by Carol’s discussion with Her Roots by Nature (HRBN) regarding urban agriculture and community care, a reader contributed their own perspective, deepening the cycle of shared storytelling that flourishes when individuals find common ground through reflection.

Read Chantal's reflection 'On gardening, inspired by Carol's story.'

We do not need scholars to point out the fact that the "maternal" is not merely a biological state, but a social practice of care that sustains the collective. Whether you are a mother by birth, a mentor, or a pillar of your community, your influence shapes generations.

Wishing a meaningful Mother’s Day to all who celebrate and to all who embody this spirit of nurturing. You are loved. ✨

Welcome to HRBN Stories

HRBN Stories is a space for thoughtful storytelling, where interviews, reflections, and community voices come together through memory, creativity, and lived experience.

This page is an extension of my work as Eartha Lowe, where I explore the ways stories shape how we see ourselves, each other, and the world we move through.

Here you’ll find:
• conversations with creatives and community voices
• reflective writing and journal entries
• seasonal and place-based stories
• updates from gatherings and events

Thank you for being here. I’m glad our paths have crossed.

"Ubuntu is not just a beautiful saying; it’s a responsibility." — Tresha Wallace

Nature reminds us that nothing grows in isolation. Just as every element of the ecosystem relies on the health of the whole, our lives are woven together by the care we provide one another. Ubuntu is the active practice of showing up, holding space, and ensuring that no one walks their path alone.

The full conversation with Tresha Wallace remains on herrootsbynature.ca.

"Education may provide knowledge, but our elders teach us how to live." 🌸

I’m so honoured to share my latest feature on Tresha Wallace and the Ubuntu Legacy Community Care centre. Tresha is doing incredible work to ensure our elders are honoured, included, and understood.

It’s a conversation about presence, kinship, and the true meaning of legacy. I hope you’ll take a moment to read it.

--- I’d love to hear from you: Who is an elder that has shaped your life or taught you a lesson you still carry today? Let’s celebrate them in the comments.
