Color Shapes Emotional Tone

Different colours tend to evoke different emotional associations:

Red often suggests energy, passion, confidence, intensity, or danger.
Blue is frequently associated with calmness, trust, introspection, or melancholy.
Yellow can evoke optimism, warmth, or anxiety depending on its intensity.
Green often suggests balance, nature, health, or renewal.
Purple can imply mystery, creativity, luxury, or spirituality.
Black may communicate power, elegance, grief, or seriousness.
White often conveys purity, simplicity, openness, or distance.

For example, a portrait dominated by cool blues may make a subject appear reflective or emotionally distant, while warm reds and oranges can make the same person seem more energetic and approachable.

In this case, my client wanted to include her branding colours from her website to create a cohesive visual identity.

Shooting architecture is a lot of fun because it takes me into all sorts of buildings I wouldn't normally see. Grassmere Construction hired me to capture some portfolio pieces of the KW aircraft hanger out at Hamilton Airport. They had designed and built an addition onto what was already there and needed some images for their website. I loved seeing the immensity of the building and the context of it will the airplanes in the shot. It was a very cool shoot!

What Makes a Great Campaign?

One of Lily’s proudest achievements was working on campaigns for Nike Women’s in Canada roughly 25 years ago. At a time when women’s sports received far less marketing attention, the campaigns resonated strongly with audiences and earned industry recognition.

She says the key to a successful campaign is understanding the audience deeply and creating work that makes them feel understood.

“You get me.”

For Lily, that emotional connection matters more than awards. While recognition is rewarding, the most meaningful success comes when people genuinely remember and connect with the work.
