Konektis is one of the many exceptional entities I’ve had the fortune to work with! To photograph their expressive faces while being serenaded by vocal professionals is like a lottery for the senses. 🎵🎶💕

Iceland 5.1

Iceland doesn’t do “consistent.” It does contrast.

One minute the light is razor sharp—cutting across snow like it was designed to show every ridge, every line, every scar in the landscape. The next, it’s diffused into something soft and atmospheric, flattening everything into tone and mood. Sun, cloud, wind, snow—it all reshapes the same place over and over again.

Nothing here stays the same long enough to get comfortable. That’s the point.

The light isn’t just illumination—it’s the subject. It defines the land as much as the land defines it. Harsh when it wants to be. Gentle when it feels like it. Always clean. Always honest.

Time of day doesn’t matter. Season doesn’t matter. Weather definitely doesn’t matter.

If you’re waiting for 'perfect conditions' in Iceland, you’re already there.

I’ve got a bit of a thing for waves.

Not in the dramatic, “stand in awe of the ocean” kind of way—more in the way they just keep changing. Every few seconds it’s a completely different shape, different texture, different energy.

Same stretch of black sand. Same water.
Nothing repeats.

Foam patterns that look like fingerprints.
Edges that curl, collapse, then disappear like they were never there.
Heavy water one second, lace the next.

It’s easy to just see “waves.”
But if you stop for a minute, there’s a ridiculous amount of detail happening in something we usually ignore.

I probably stood there longer than I needed to.
No real reason—just watching, waiting for the next variation.

Worth it.

Iceland 4.2

Hengifoss wasn’t putting on much of a show this day—mostly frozen, quiet, almost understated.

But that’s the thing about Iceland. Even when the “main attraction” takes a step back, everything else steps forward.

The ground is never just ground.
It’s layers of thawing snow, exposed earth, and volcanic rock—each with its own texture, each catching light differently depending on where you stand.

The cliffs don’t just rise—they ripple.
Columned basalt, worn edges, sharp breaks… like the land itself is still deciding what shape it wants to be.

And the sky never sits still long enough to ignore.
Clouds roll in, tear open, soften, then sharpen the light again—completely changing the mood in minutes.

Even the smallest details hold their own.
A moss-covered rock. A frozen stream cutting through the hillside. Footprints crossing a ridge that disappears into white.

It’s not dramatic in the obvious way.
It’s layered. Subtle. Constantly shifting.

And that’s what makes it interesting—there’s no single subject.
The living, breathing landscape is the subject.

There’s a quiet kind of honesty in places like Möðrudalur.

No noise. No urgency. No need to prove anything.

Just wind moving across snow, clouds dragging their shadows over the land, and a reindeer—unbothered, unassuming—moving through it all beneath the broad, flat-topped presence of Herðubreið.

It doesn’t question its place here.
It doesn’t try to stand out.
It doesn’t try to matter more than anything else.

It simply exists within the balance.

And somehow, that feels complete.

We tend to complicate things—layering meaning, chasing significance, trying to carve out identity in a world that’s already perfectly composed without us.

But out here, the hierarchy disappears.

Mountain, sky, animal, light—none competing, none demanding attention. Just coexisting.

The reindeer doesn’t carry the weight of expectation.
It doesn’t need to.

It grazes. It moves. It rests.

And in that simplicity, there’s something that feels… correct.

Maybe balance isn’t something we build.
Maybe it’s something we return to.

Iceland 3.4

There’s good reason why people flock to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Small pieces of glacier drift into the bay, and when wind and water bring together smaller sheets of ocean, they are like soft chimes. In Skaftafell National Park we came face-to-face with Vatnajokull, Europe’s biggest glacier. The immense pressure creates ice that is incredibly dense and clear, and the blue is like nothing else.

Iceland 2.3

Now that we’ve made it to the east side of the island, there’s a few spare minutes to catch my breath!

We ventured into Thingvellir National Park, home to the Parliament Plains and location of Iceland’s first parliament. Thingvellir also contains the Silfra fissure, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart.

Next was a trek to the Geysir (the Icelandic name for this geyser) geothermal area, to check out Strokkur and watch as the geyser swells with blue water before erupting and shooting some 60 to 200 ft in the air. Next was the immense beauty and sheer power of the Gullfoss (Golden) double waterfall on the Hvita River.

Other highlights have been Seljalandsfoss waterfall, followed by Skogafoss waterfall. At 80 feet wide with a 200 ft. drop, this waterfall roars! Also was a quick stop at Fontana Geothermal Bakery, where a special recipe of rye bread is buried in the sand for 24 hours to cook. Topped with butter and smoked trout, it was incredible.
