Viewer discretion: this post contains images of a rare and raw moment of a birth in the wild.
It’s not every day you get to say you’ve seen a cow moose calving.
Just 5 days into the season , we had an incredibly rare sighting as we came across a cow moose giving birth along the riverbank.
Our boat had come around a bend and saw what appeared to be a young cow moose resting in the shade right at the edge of the river. At first we were a little confused why she wasn’t moving, then quickly realized what was actually happening, and how delicate of situation we were now in. Our jet boat driver quickly shut the engines off and quietly floated back down the river to give her space as not to disturb her more. We were incredibly lucky to catch even a short glimpse of this beautiful event.
This mother was incredibly small, after a long winter, cow moose often enter calving season looking surprisingly lean and exhausted, as food sources are still scarce from winter season and huge amounts of energy go into carrying and delivering their calves.
A wild encounter to say the least, one that will remain etched into our memories forever🫎🌲
