I figured it would be a perfectly good time to get out the 500mm lens and ND100000 Neutral Density Filter which blocks 99.999% of incoming light.

What we see in the images is a fairly active sun with numerous sunspots in the center and also right hand side of the portion of the sun currently facing us.

Photographers typically use these extreme filters to take pictures of the sun to witness sunspot activity and also solar eclipses.

“The Maple” 🍁

This time of year nature puts on an absolutely wonderful display of colour in Ontario. I have been literally stalking this particular maple tree on my way to and from work the past several years. Every year I always admire its beauty with its fullness and bright yellow orange hues as I go driving by.

Problem is there are industrial buildings all around as it’s located right in the city of Barrie. So, in order to properly photograph the tree and do it justice I needed to find an angle where I can have the tree in my image without the distracting human elements in the shot. Luckily, this tree is perched up on a very small but steep hill alongside the road and sidewalk. While placing my camera and wide angle lens basically on the ground and angled upward, I was able to photograph the tree at pretty cool angle.

What do you think, was I successful in capturing the beauty of this maple tree ?

Today marks the end of an era... the final air show (in Moose Jaw) featuring the Canadian Forces Snowbirds flying the CT-114 Tutors. So many memories throughout my life watching the Snowbirds at air shows in Ontario and BC since I was 4 or 5 years old, and now with my own children at that very same age. Thank you! 😢

The combination of golden hour glow, morning fog, and a glass-like reflection created a moment that felt completely frozen in time. 🍂

This curious Canada Goose kept circling around me ever so quietly. I didn’t mind as the lighting and atmosphere was perfect.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone !! 🦃🍁🍂

While this isn’t a swimming turkey, it is a female Common Merganser which looks like it was recently photographed due to the fall-like background colours. However, I did create this image back in the early Spring just after ice off at our local pond. These waterfowl are very skiddish and take a lot of patience and planning to photograph. Getting close to them is a chore which, like many other birds, helps immensely having a long telephoto lens.

"Stubb's Falls" 🍁🍂🌊

Yours truly overlooking the fast flowing Stubb's Falls a few years back. Algonquin Park generates a ton of buzz this time of year but there are many quieter locations when looking for fall colour adventures (and even closer to home). I had arrived on location in the early morning hours on a Saturday and there was just about nobody else there. Myself and another photographer had the falls all to ourselves. Definitely a recommended location to check out !
