The perfect camera is the one you have with you; it’s the one that allows you to capture the moment as it happens. 📷👌🏻

Sure, having quality gear allows for more options for how you can use or print the image, but if all you have is a smartphone, use it! Don’t ever skip out on documenting part of their childhood because you don’t own a professional camera.

That being said, recreating an important milestone or recurring adventure to print it as large wall art is exactly what I am here for. And it brings me great joy to do so! 🖼️📔

So, if you want a portrait of your fishing-loving kiddo on the dock overlooking the lake where you spent your own childhood 🎣, or if you want to frame the smiles that come with the shrieks and squeals of your children enjoying the rides at the fun fair 🎡, let’s do it!

I was going to restart the monthly mama meetups, but the most perfect post appeared on my feed today.
Now I get to participate, meet new people & see friendly faces, enjoy delicious caffeinated treats, and without needing to organize it all—win, win, win! ☕️🤎🙌🏻

☕🤍 THE MAMA SPACE — COFFEE MEETUPS🤍☕

One of the things I’d love to create through The Mama Space is something really simple:

Coffee. Conversation. Connection.
Every second Monday or Tuesday starting on September 7th, we’ll pick a different coffee spot to explore around West Ottawa, Carleton Place, Perth, Arnprior, Renfrew and the surrounding Valley.
I do want to mention that I won’t be able to make it to every meetup because I have Baby College and To The Moon and Back commitments 🤍

But that doesn’t mean the coffee meetups have to stop!

I’ll still be choosing the café, sharing all the details and creating the opportunity for you mamas to connect— and if I’m not able to make it that week, you’re more than welcome to go ahead without me. ☕👶

The goal isn’t a big, structured event.

It’s simply a reason to get out of the house, bring the baby, grab a coffee and meet some other moms.

And yes, that means investing in quality tools and equipment to get the job done well, plus marketing and networking to find the awesome clients to work with, during which time we may need to live a little lean…

Most families I work with have thousands of photos on their phones, hundreds of folders on a hard drive somewhere, and yet when I ask what's on their walls, the answer is usually “not much” or “nothing yet”… 💔

Sometimes it’s because they just moved or are house hunting, occasionally it’s minimalists who haven’t realized portraits can fit into that aesthetic too, but most of the time is because their good intentions to print never reach the point of action. That’s where I come in 🙋🏼‍♀️

I help every client choose the best wall art for their space, and then I go to their home and hang it for them because that’s often the part of the “get family photos done” task that becomes the burden. Not anymore! 🔨🖼️👌🏻

The little details matter when creating heirloom wall art. And I’m not talking about the choice of frame type or quality of glass.

It’s the seemingly tedious and often overlooked things that can make or break that perfect family portrait:
• choosing a sweater or dress for your session because it looks great but it’s hella itchy
• putting kiddo in an outfit you’re going to be overly worried about getting dirty
• starting the session too early to accommodate bedtime instead of waiting for golden hour
• picking a location out of convenience instead of for the look, overall vibe, or sentimental value
• using threats of punishment during the session, instead of rewards (or a tad of bribery) and letting the photographer take the lead

Documenting childhood is not always capturing the best looking-at-camera-and-smiling portraits.

So much of a child’s story is about how they FELT during a specific moment, in a specific place, or with a specific person. Documenting those in-between moments really helps tell that story in an authentic way, and recreating moments previously experienced is a completely valid option of doing so.

Creating wall art that allows them to see their joy every day and continue to feel that warmth and sense of self-confidence is truly my favourite way to celebrate children while telling their story.
