You’ve been calling it vanity for years.

Every time you thought about booking a session, a little voice said, “Who am I to do that?”

So you waited. Until you lost the weight. Until the kids were older. Until you felt ready.

Here’s what I know after years behind the camera: that voice isn’t telling you the truth.

Wanting to be seen isn’t vanity. Wanting to feel beautiful isn’t vanity. Sitting at the mirror while someone takes care of you for once isn’t vanity.

It’s becoming.

The word I hear most in my studio is “vain.”

Women sit down with me and say it almost every time.

“Is this too much?”
“Is it silly to do this at my age?”
“It feels so vain.”

I always ask the same question: When did you last spend an afternoon taking care of yourself, with no one else on the list?

The pause that follows tells me everything.

So many of us spend decades making sure everyone else is looked after. Lunches packed. Calendars managed. Needs met. Somewhere along the way, we start to believe that being seen is something we have to earn.

That isn’t vanity. That’s a woman who forgot she’s allowed to take up space.

Vanity is wanting to be seen as something you’re not.
Becoming is finally letting yourself be seen as who you are.

It’s not vanity. It’s becoming.

If you’ve been telling yourself it’s too much, too late, or too self-indulgent, consider this your permission slip.

You don’t need to change a thing. Just show up. I’ll take care of the rest.

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW THIS WOMAN IS STILL GETTING AWAY WITH THIS IN CALGARY?!

She invites women into her studio. Offers them a beverage. Gives them hair and makeup so they feel beautiful. Pampers them. Makes them feel special.

Then they say:
“I hate having my photo taken.”
“I need to lose 20 pounds first.”
“I’m too old.”

And she tells them they don’t need to fix a single thing. Stands behind the camera saying “Look at how beautiful you are!” until they actually believe it.

Now women are crying at the screen because for the first time in years they see themselves differently.

When confronted, she said:
“You were never the problem. You just hadn’t seen yourself through the right eyes.”

THE NERVE OF HER.

IT’S ME. SABRINA. Guilty as charged.

If you’ve been waiting to lose weight, feel younger, or be more “ready,” consider this your warning.

You don’t need to change a thing. This is your time to shine.

It’s not vanity. It’s becoming.

Meet Catherine, one of the women featured in our Unstoppable Women Magazine.

Catherine came to her session with a simple wish: portraits that felt like her.

She wore her own clothes, the pieces she reaches for and feels most at home in. She showed up as herself, ready to celebrate the woman she is right now.

That is what makes these images so special. When you are dressed in what feels like you and standing in your own truth, it shows. Her comfort, her personality, and her quiet confidence come through in every frame.

We often think a portrait session has to be a big transformation. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply celebrate who you already are.

Bo***ir at any age deserves to be showcased.

Somewhere along the way, women were handed a quiet rule: beautiful photos are for the young. Then a second rule followed. After a certain age, you are supposed to fade into the background of your own life.

I don't believe either one.

The women who sit in front of my camera are 40, 50, 60 and beyond. They are mothers, business owners, grandmothers, and women who have spent decades taking care of everyone else. They carry stories in their skin, strength in their bodies, and a confidence that only comes from having lived.

That is not something to hide. That is something to honour.

Bo***ir is not about being perfect. It is not about looking twenty five again. It is about standing in front of the mirror, seeing the woman who got you here, and finally saying, "She is worth celebrating."

Every woman I photograph leaves with images that show her exactly how powerful she looks. Not a filtered version. Not a younger version. Her.

If you have been waiting for the "right" time, the right weight, or the right age, this is your reminder that the right time is now. Your story is worth showcasing.

Meet Tracy, a pillar of the Airdrie community and one of the authors in Legacy in Light.

If you live in Airdrie, chances are Tracy has made your community better in some way. She gives, and she cares, and she does it without needing the spotlight. She once tried to buy an ambulance for the city. It was denied, but the heart behind it says everything about who she is.

I had the honour of photographing Tracy on the farm she grew up on, surrounded by the chickens and cattle, on land that holds her family's story. I got to hear the history of her grandparents and see where her roots run deep. Capturing her there felt like capturing a whole legacy in a single frame.

Tracy's story in the book is about the invisible struggles that come with a massive brain injury. On the outside, she looks fine. On the inside, she is still working through brain fog, balance, and memory challenges, along with so much more that people cannot see.

And still, she shows up for everyone else.

That is what makes her so inspiring. Strength is not always loud, and it does not always look like what we expect. Sometimes it is the person quietly carrying a heavy load while making sure everyone around her is okay.

Tracy, thank you for trusting me with your story. It is a privilege to share it.

Meet Robyn, one of the women who will be featured in our Unstoppable Women Magazine.

Anyone who has walked into a room where they were the only woman knows what that takes. The extra proving. The louder voice you sometimes have to find. The quiet decision, again and again, to keep going and keep building anyway.
